MASON CITY – Mason City police are investigating after a man was shot while walking down the street.
On Saturday, June 12, 2021, at 10:12 p.m., Mason City Police Officers responded to a shooting at 1st Street NW and North Madison Avenue. The report was that several shots were fired. When officers arrived they found one person at the scene who had a gunshot wound to the leg.
The injured party was transported to MercyOne North Iowa by Mason City Fire Department personnel. The leg injury was not life threatening.
Officers completed a neighborhood canvass and collected evidence from the scene. The victim reported that he had been walking down the street when he was shot at. Based on the information available at this time, MCPD believes this is a targeted incident and not a random shooting.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Mason City Police Department at 641-421-3636 and ask for Criminal Investigation Lieutenant Rich Jensen. Information can also be shared with Crime Stoppers of North Central Iowa.
But as often as it happens it may as well be random the one thing we know for a fact is that it’s consistent in one area of town. these jerkoffs are to inconsiderate to think about where the bullets go when they miss each other. I think most of us are fine with the losers killing each other but they do a poor job and they are going to end up killing some random innocent person with this bs. IDK how this is going to play out after July 1st when constitional carry becomes the law. Thugs don’t read the news or know the law’s. It seems if you have to spend time in mc you wouldn’t be wrong to exercise your right to carry a concealed handgun especially if you’re within a mile west or north of the new family event center after dark you’re playing a stupid game. Everyone decent should boycott north end everything, stay off that side of town and don’t spend money up there. Maybe the city will take notice and spend some cash on actually improving that area of town. Clearly nothing has happened to the north end that’s made a positive change. Are people going to come from out of town to go to the resurrected mall if they can read about a new violent crime EVERY week between monroe and the mall up to the north edge of town? I wouldn’t take my kids to a place in the middle of a shit hole with a neighborhood full of addicts and section 8 properties bordering it. It’s nice that all the money mason city is wasting isn’t going to actually improve the community but to generate tourist income it probably won’t even manage anyway. Getting through work everyday sucks but knowing it’s a day closer to having the money to leave this little cess pool forever is the biggest motivator anyone could ever find. F mason city.
