Alleged drunk driver from Nebraska runs down pedestrian in Mason City at Mills Fleet Farm

MASON CITY – An alleged drunk driver from Nebraska ran down a pedestrian in Mason City at Mills Fleet Farm, police say.

The accident took place Tuesday evening, June 8, 2021, when police and emergency responders were called to Mills Fleet Farm in Mason City, located at 3200 4th Street SE.  They were told a person had collapsed outside the store.  After an investigation by first responders, it was determined that the collapsed person had been hit by a vehicle, a 2015 Chevy Colorado driven by 35-year-old Christopher Rathfon of Omaha, Nebraska.

The hurt pedestrian was taken to Mercy Hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

Rathfon was located and arrested on charges of first-offense operating while intoxicated, reckless driving  and D felony serious injury by vehicle.

The incident remains under investigation.

What kind of judge would let a guy like this out on bond? Especially out of state. The lady in the article has since died of the injuries. The really sad part of all this is that she and her family just buried their mother 2 months ago. Now another funeral.

He’s already out on bond and has probably fled the state. She is in the trauma center in poor shape. They should have locked him up and kept him in jail.
