Ribbon-cutting ceremony held at Golden Grain Energy’s massive grain bin, claimed to be World’s largest

Sukup-built grain bin at Golden Grain Energy in Mason City

MASON CITY – A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Wednesday in Mason City at a renewable energy plant for the world’s largest grain bin.

The event was held June 2 at Golden Grain Energy, where corn is processed into ethanol. All that corn can now be held in what is claimed to be the World’s largest grain bin, built by Sukup Manufacturing. The company claims, “The bin will hold 2.25 million bushels, and will include 30 rings with a peak height of 155 feet and 7 inches. The bin diameter is 165 feet. It is the largest free span grain bin in the world. The previous record holder, also designed and manufactured by Sukup, had a diameter of 156 feet.”

Elected officials and other dignitaries were in attendance for the event.
