Mason City council authorizes development agreement with new owner of Southbridge Mall

MASON CITY – The Mason City City Council held a Public Hearing at its June 1 meeting and authorized a development agreement with a new owner of Southbridge Mall. A presentation to the Council featured the plans for the complete redevelopment of the mall interior including recreational opportunities, new restaurants and retail stores, and significant updates to the exterior of the facility resulting in a family entertainment destination.

Two of the most recently added features include a new storefront with digital signage on the south side of the mall between the main mall entrance and the Mason City Arena entrance and a new facade on the main entrance of the mall on the south side.

Additional details and plans will be made available in the near future.

in a related story, maybe golden grains could fill younkers with corn, and have the first and second biggest storage tanks.

Laugh out loud, perfect.

The next embarrassing failure.

Fantasy land with the theft of the serfs $. People need their own $ they earned, give their $ back to them. People have their own needs, projects & ideas of what to do with their own $. Psychopaths always have their greedy thieving hands in other people’s livelihood. Losers you want a business go have a bake sale, fundraisers etc. use your own $ like everyone else does. Creeps

1) How does the guy get financing for the mall when he hasn’t even been able to deliver on financing for the hotel after how long?

2)When the city gives the “property tax rebate of no more than $12,750,000”, where are they going to make up this 10 year budget shortfall? Hmmm… oh yeah, by raising everyone else’s taxes!

And that is why we are leaving

Oh, how short are your memories! The guy behind this “Hollywood” dream deal is David Rachie, the same promoter of the downtown hotel. He first appeared before the City Council many years ago as the agent/promoter for the Gatehouse Capital group. I know you recall that his knack for convincing people to see things his way gained him a non-refundable taxpayer loan of $150.000 so he could produce his Proforma hotel plan. How many years ago has that been, and where is that Proforma plan?
Now he’s here under a brand-new moniker; SBMC, LLC promoting the hugest downtown development yet. Thus far his skillful art of persuasion has the City Council agreeing to a $12.75 million tax reduction in the amount of tax that must be paid on the project. Of course, the tradeoff is that SBMC will be responsible for replacing the roof on their mall and redeveloping both the interior and exterior of Southbridge. That’s the tough part for them.

Here we go again. Another wet dream by the city.

be like the hockey rink — “No new taxes”. Just raise the water, sewer and garbage rates like is coming real soon, hold onto your ass
