MASON CITY – Southbridge Mall in Mason City will soon be getting a make-over, City Hall proclaimed today. Residents will see some very exciting and notable new developments in the future as announced at the City Council meeting on May 4, 2021.
The existing mall will supposedly be transformed into an entertainment center catering to families. A few of the food and drink establishments newly named in the redevelopment plans include a brewery from Iowa’s Backpocket Brewing, Gary Dolphin’s Bar and Hall of Fame, and a pizzeria by Gino’s East of Chicago. Along with the eating and drinking establishments are movie theaters, go-kart tracks, bowling, and some type of golf simulator, all yet to be named.

City Hall is billing this development as “another great step in the River City Renaissance Project!”
“Some projected amenities to include revamping the movie theater, 24 lane bowling alley, arcade, go karts and golf simulators. If things go as planned, this should be completed within 2 years,” a city councilman said.
It’s such a load of crap. All this talk about re-…whatver-ing has been going on for let’s say about close to 20 years? The skywalk to what exactly? That doesn’t exists yet? So sad that the city approved this when there’s nowhere and all these proposals? And parking? Good luck with that one!
It will make a great back drop for the junkies and morons wandering around the area and the ones occasionally shooting and stabbing each other once or twice a week. Family entertainment center? More like an excuse to mismanage funds and throw away more time and effort for nothing much. I do love the new hotel…. oh ya. It’s been forever and a bunch of corrupt people tool “business” trips to Hawaii etc. How much will the city council be splitting off the top?

History is a good indicator of what will happen. Clear lake started their hotel project 10 years after MC, and it’s almost done. MC hasn’t even broke ground yet. Mason City has had terrible choices in elected officials and representatives. They just keep flushing tax money down the drain.

Isn’t this exciting?? A new development for Southbridge Mall! It’ll not only have Gary Dolphin’s Bar and Hall of Fame owned by some out-of-towner to compete with the locally owned Sports Page family-friendly Bar and Restaurant, but it will also have an out-of-town owned 24 lane bowling alley to compete with Mason City’s historic 12 lane bowling alley, Mystic Lanes. And pizza from Chicago; Mmmmmmmm! Can’t get any better than that. Check it out:
