Child cleaning Northern Iowa hog confinement found dead inside facility

SWEA CITY – A child cleaning a Northern Iowa hog confinement was found dead inside the facility.

On April 19, 2021 at about 9:10 PM, the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office and Swea City Ambulance were dispatched to 407 390th Street, rural Swea City, for a person found unconscious at a hog-site building. Upon arrival a female was transported to the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona by the Swea City Ambulance with assistance from Algona EMS. It was reported that the female had been assisting in the cleaning and power washing of the facility and was found lying on the floor by another person that was also working in the area.

The patient was pronounced dead at Kossuth Regional Health Center and deputies had contacted the Kossuth County Medical Examiner to assist in the investigation. The Iowa Medical Examiners Office in Ankeny, Iowa will be conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The victim has been identified as 17-year-old Victoria Marie Parra Lerdo of Rockwell City, Iowa.

An ongoing investigation will continue until cause of death is determined by the Iowa Medical Examiners Office.
