MASON CITY – Police are saying two men were shot in Mason City this past weekend.
At approximately 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 10th officers responded West Park at 1st and North Jackson on a report of gunshots being fired. When officers arrived there was an unoccupied car in the area that had crashed into a utility pole and no one was located in the area of the park.
At about the same time officers arrived at the park one victim arrived at Mercy One North Iowa with a gunshot wound. About 20 minutes after the original report of shots fired a second gunshot victim arrived at the emergency room with a gunshot wound.
Also during the investigation a second vehicle was located near the intersection of 6th and North Federal with several holes from gunfire. It’s believed that vehicle had been driven to that location from West Park and abandoned.
The shooting victims were both males and in their early 20’s. One has been released from the hospital and the other is still recovering at the hospital.
Anyone with information about the shooting should contact the Mason City Police Department.
Police should just start executing dealers and users. Everybody else get those crosses burning in yards.

So, can we ask the pd for more information before they ask us to do their job for them AGAIN. the mcpd standard response to violent crime they cant solve is to tell us they know nothing, we are safe and please tell them information so they dont have to do their jobs. Where the “victims” white or black, I’ll venture to guess black and that indicates the shooter(s) are black. How old are little details like those can help the community stay safer. Instead we dint get shit. The mcpd isnt under staffed it’s just staffed by useless dipshits who dont know what their job is. Since the 1st we have had how many violent incidents in town? Those are the ones that ppl bother to report anymore. We hear gunshots all the time in mason (yes they are guns not fireworks) what’s the point of calling it in anymore? I agree with a lot of what you say. But, I know for a fact that the PD is down about 25% in staffing. Why, because nobody wants to be a cop anymore, would you? They go out and do their job, arrest law breakers and the courts put them back on the street. Don’t get me started on the respect that they don’t get, exactly like what’s in your comment. If you can do better, there are openings in the PD, apply and lets see how far you can go. It’s easier to piss and moan about something then it is to stand up and change it.
The police cant change this. They are the entity that deals with it when it wasn’t dealt with societally and civically. Maybe crack down on the government programs and make sure the ppl applying for benefits are the only ppl benefiting from them, make sure they aren’t selling narcotics ect. Maybe crack down on landlords that rent to people they know represent an element of society that is dangerous and unpredictable. Maybe we need better opportunities and more vocational services for poor ppl. None of what you say or I say matters because in the end we need to force parents to parent. I had parents…. never felt inclined to participate in a violent crime, steal or commit any other rediculous crimes habitually or otherwise. Most ppl with parents turn out like that. You are right though. The court system in thos county could shape up. When the guy who shoots ppl on north Penn only gets two years of PROBATION…. somethings very broken and ppl need to be held accountable. This county has sent young adults to prison for crimes that dont hurt or endanger anyone all the while letting violent criminals and sexual predators off the hook. You have a solution for that? Because actually enforcing laws and keeping dangerous individuals locked up seems like it may help solve some of masons issue. Whoever decided to build a halfway house in town really didnt do anyone any favors either… mason city has and always will be a total mess.

What if someone was walking by the river and caught a stray round or someone in their home? As to avoiding liquor stores in and around Mason City? Well, speaking for myself, I’ll NEVER do that.
Any time I decide to drive to any liquor store to buy bourbon, gin, or smokes, or beer, or whatever I want, I’ll be in such establishments.
And if anyone, of ANY race, tries to harass me, they’ll get one warning to stay away. If they advance, I’ll introduce them to a loaded .380, with the safety flicked off, and warn them again.
