CEDAR RAPIDS – An Iowa man was arrested after allegedly slamming a puppy to the ground, breaking multiple bones.
A cooperative investigation by Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control with the Cedar Rapids Police Department has resulted in a suspect being arrested for Animal Abuse Causing Serious Injury, an aggravated misdemeanor. With the assistance of tips received from the public and the ongoing investigation, officers arrested 22-year-old Jayden Devontre Cliff of Cedar Rapids.
Cliff is accused of grabbing a 12-week old Golden Retriever by the skin on the back of the neck and throwing it on the ground, then kicking the puppy with his foot which caused the puppy to be forced out of the room it was in. This occurred after the puppy had defecated on a bed and continued to defecate on the floor after being thrown to the ground. The Golden Retriever puppy sustained serious injuries, including fractures.
Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control sought the public’s assistance in the case on Thursday, April 1, 2021. That morning, Critter Crusaders of Cedar Rapids received a phone call from a concerned individual who was in possession of an injured 12-week old male Golden Retriever. The individual advised that they took possession of the puppy after a teenager left the animal at their house. The puppy had two fractured legs, including a right rear femur fracture and a right front metacarpal fracture. The non-profit Critter Crusaders of Cedar Rapids has facilitated surgical care for the puppy and named the puppy Kimble. He has been hospitalized since April 1, 2021 and had surgery. He has a badly broken femur and many bones fractured in his metacarpals.
Cliff was transported to the Linn County Correctional Center.
This person who abused this beautiful puppy needs to be locked up for a long time. I wonder how many other animals he had hurt!!
