MASON CITY – Mason City police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash and are seeking more clues.
On Monday, March 29, 2021 at around 4:25 PM, Mason City Police Department officers and the Mason City Fire Department were dispatched to 11th Street NE and N Rhode Island Avenue for a collision. The collision involved a 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Taylor Bublitz of Mason City, and a 2006 Harley Davidson FLHXI, driven by James Birke, also of Mason City. Birke suffered injuries in the collision and was transported by Mason City Fire Department ambulance to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center. Birke later died at the hospital as a result of those injuries.
The collision remains under investigation, and anyone with information regarding it is asked to contact the Mason City Police Department. The contact is Lt. Jeremy Ryal, 641-421-2716.

I would have to agree with my brother Mike on this. James was a careful driver. He worked for the city driving a rock truck, says a lot for his driving record. And everyone needs to stop assuming shit, until the investigation is done. My family doesn’t deserve to be judged. His wife and children don’t need negative people to stir shit up. So sit down shut the hell up, cuz no matter what, someone’s life was lost, a wife grieving the loss of a man who been with her for 30 years, he was a loving father, a brother who had your back when you needed him to, and most of all HE WAS MY BROTHER, I DONT GET TO TEXT HIM, OR CALL HIM, WHY CUZ HES GONE. Very sorry for your loss and the idiot comments from low self esteem losers. No excuse for that crap. I live just a couple houses away from the accident . Unprotected intersections are terrible in my neighborhood. Nobody has to be speeding for this kind of tragic thing to happen .
