CHARLES CITY – Rep. Rep. Todd Prichard, representing Floyd county opposes public money for private charter schools in Iowa, he said today in an email statement:
In the middle of the night, the majority party in the House passed legislation that overhauls Iowa’s charter school law. I opposed these changes for several reasons. I am a firm believer that public money should be for public schools. The legislation authorized the creation of charter schools funded with public tax dollars without the same transparency requirements as our public schools.
These charter schools also do not have elected school boards that are accountable to constituents and do not require the founding group of a charter to even be a member of the community where the charter school is being created.
We should be working to support our public schools to make up for lost time this past year not creating new unaccountable charter schools. In the end, the new law just further stresses our already under funded rural schools by siphoning away critical resources.

No school would be better than public/prison indoctrination fool school. People are forced to pay taxes for public joke schools, private schools need to get the same amount of $ or split the forced/stolen $ with the private learning havens. Teachers’ unions refuse to do their jobs (instructing children in person, in a classroom setting) by declaring that “if one teacher dies, isn’t that too many?” It is time to decertify the teachers unions.

Of course he is against it. He is in the teachers union’s pocket. The tax money belongs to each individual and should be used how ever they want it.

Yes, according to the republicQns. They want to give more money to corporations and the extremely wealthy. If we give less to schools, we can give them more.

Look at New York, spending per pupil $24,040(highest spending per pupil in the nation), their K-12 schools rank nation wide at 19th.
How about Alaska spending $17,726(ranking 6th in spending) and the education ranking for K-12 is at 49th.
Flip side of the coin Connecticut spending $20635,( ranking 3rd on spending) and coming out at number 3 also in the K-12 educational ranking.
New Jersey $20,021 (4th), and 1st in K-12 ranking.
California spends a little more than Iowa, and ranks lower.
CA $12,498 (21st right behind Minnesota), and ranks 40th in K-12 education.
Iowa $11,732 (27th in spending), and ranks 24th in K-12 education.
The WHOLE point is, more money doesn’t necessarily fix the problem. There are a number of things that are the problem, these need to be addressed. Online learning doesn’t work. The kids do not learn as well or just don’t do it.
I don’t have all the answers, but making it easier to get rid of bad teachers is a good start to improving our educational systems here in Iowa.
Make it plain and simple, school isn’t an indoctrination center. Teachers ramming there political views down the kids throats will be gone.

I would love for you to provide us with all your proof of teachers “ramming there (sic) political views down the kids (sic) throats”. Have you been in a public school recently? Have you personally witnessed it? I have. I know one of those “liberal” teachers told his classes in 2008 that Obama was the anti-Christ and if he was elected, our country would be Muslim by 2020.
