AMES – Police have arrested a possible dangerous stalker for crimes in Ames including breaking into young college women’s apartments to watch them sleep, record them, and ultimately commit assault.
As NIT previously reported, on November 21, 2020, at 7:42 AM, the Ames Police Department responded to a report of a burglary and assault at an apartment at 145 Hyland Avenue in Iowa’s third-best college town. The female victim reported a tall black male, wearing a ski mask, black sweatpants and a gray shirt entered her apartment and demanded money. The suspect assaulted the woman and ran from the apartment prior to police arriving. The victim received minor injuries. Officers continued to investigate multiple burglaries at apartments in the city of Ames.
On March 5, 2021, the Ames Police Department arrested Trenton L. Williams, age 29, of Ames for the following offenses.
• Robbery 2nd degree, a class “C” felony
• Burglary 1st degree, a class “B” felony
• Burglary 2nd degree, a class “C” felony (2 counts)
• Burglary 3rd degree, a class “D” felony (2 counts)
• Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Abuse, a class “D” felony
• Stalking, an aggravated misdemeanor (3 counts)
• Trespass, a serious misdemeanor (3 counts)
• Harassment 2nd degree, a serious misdemeanor
• Theft 3rd degree, an aggravated misdemeanor
This arrest is in connection with an extensive and on-going investigation which started in May 2019. College-age female victims reported multiple burglaries and trespassing incidents at apartments in the 100 and 200 block of Hyland Avenue and the 100 block of Campus Avenue. In many of the cases, Williams did not steal items, but he stood in the victim’s rooms while they slept, and video recorded them. These incidents continued and escalated in November 2020 when Williams assaulted a victim inside her apartment.
Investigators conducted a search warrant on Williams’ apartment and his electronic devices. Evidence from these search warrants connected him to the incidents.
Investigation into this incident continues by the Ames Police Department.
