Accused California child molester found in Hampton

CEDAR RAPIDS – An accused California child molester has been found in Hampton, authorities say.

U.S. Marshals arrested on March 4 a man in Hampton, Iowa, who was wanted on a multi- count felony sex offense.

Nhin Tat Ho, 85, was wanted by the San Gabriel Police Department in Los Angeles County California, on felony charges of child molestation. Ho is named on a 17 count complaint filed on April 25, 2019, charging him for child molestation against multiple victims dating back to 1987. A bond has been set at 4.45 million dollars.

In early March of 2021, detectives with the San Gabriel Police Department requested assistance from the US Marshals in the location and apprehension of Ho. Police narrowed the search for Ho to a location in the 800 block of Central Avenue in Hampton, IA. On the morning of March 4, members of the Northern Iowa Fugitive Task Force observed Ho exiting a residence, approached and took Ho into custody without incident. Ho was transported to the Linn County Correctional Center where he will make an appearance and awaits extradition back to the state of California.

The U.S. Marshals Service is the federal government’s primary agency for fugitive investigations. Nationwide, 60 local task forces are dedicated to violent crime reduction by locating and apprehending wanted criminals.

These task forces also serve as the central point for agencies to share information on fugitive matters. The Northern Iowa Fugitive Task Force comprises officers from the U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Linn County Sheriff’s office, Cedar Rapids Police Department, the Waterloo Police Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
