Police say stalker entering females’ apartments in Ames and standing and watching them sleep

AMES – Police in Ames say today that a stalker is entering females’ apartments and standing and watching them sleep.

On November 21, 2020, at 7:42 AM, the Ames Police Department responded to a report of a burglary and assault at an apartment at 145 Hyland Avenue. The female victim reported a tall black male, wearing a ski mask, black sweatpants and a gray shirt entered her apartment and demanded money. The suspect assaulted the woman and ran from the apartment prior to police arriving. The victim received minor injuries.
Officers have investigated multiple burglaries at apartments in the 100 and 200 block of Hyland Avenue, where a male suspect has entered females’ apartments during the early morning hours from 4:00 AM to 7:30 AM In many of the cases, the suspect did not steal items, but he stood in the victim’s rooms while they slept. The suspect’s continued actions are very concerning. Officers have been following up on leads in the area and been working with property managers to provide extra foot patrols and surveillance.
