NORTHWOOD – Worth county sheriff Dan Fank warned today that beheading deer is a crime and a waste of natural resources after mutilated carcasses were found.
Sheriff Fank said Monday morning that in the last 3 weeks, his office have received two calls regarding a deer carcass with the animals’ heads missing. The first call was from the Joice area.
“We could not determine if it was a car hit deer or if it had been shot.”
The second call regarded a deer by Northwood.
“We were able to determine that the deer had been shot with a rifle and the head removed.”
Sheriff Fank explained that regardless of the cause of death for the animals, “both of these are a crime and a waste of a natural resource(s) and gives hunting a black eye.”
Sheriff Fank asked the public for help in ascertaining who was being the grisly beheadings.
“We are asking for your help in any information about these events and or if you observe poaching, or a violation of Iowa’s wildlife laws, please call the Turn in Poachers (TIP) hotline.
