Two Iowa prisons report new COVID cases; Suspend video visitations

Anamosa State Penitentiary

DES MOINES – The Anamosa State Penitentiary and the Iowa Correctional Institution for Women received the results of positive COVID-19 tests yesterday afternoon. Due to these new positive cases, these facilities are entering a restricted movement status to mitigate further viral spread. While on restricted movement, video visitations have been suspended at this time at both facilities.

The facilities are currently organizing mass-testing for inmates and staff in the coming days to identify any additional inmates that should be placed in medical isolation or quarantine units as part of the facilities’ virus mitigation strategies.

As additional testing is conducted and additional inmates are identified as positive for COVID-19, updates will be posted at https://doc.iowa.gov/COVID19. Whenever an inmate tests positive for COVID-19, staff notify the inmate’s emergency contact immediately.

The department has been preparing for and dealing with the eventuality of COVID-19 in the prison system for months. Since the start of the pandemic, the department has had over 1,200 inmates and over 200 staff recover from the virus and a total of 4 inmates that passed away due to complications related to the virus.

An outline of the changes to DOC protocols can be found at doc.iowa.gov/department-corrections-steps, and more information related to COVID-19 in the DOC can be found at doc.iowa.gov/COVID19. For members of the public with questions about COVID-19 in the prison system, a hotline is available during business hours Monday-Friday by calling (515) 373-5457. The whole state becoming a covid prison. Many places have a 20% positivity rate. A place in Europe had a 41% rate the other day. Looks like a lockdown is coming. Just like in the big house. With covid toes lasting six months in duration might as well cancel the 2021 4th of July festivities now. The herd mentality idea was a fail.

And they’ll be the last in line for the vaccine. What vaccine you say. Exactly. You get it once in the milder form. Then the next time you get it it’s much harsher. Vagaries are all anybody knows about…the coronie. The body does build up an immunity. How long that lasts is now being speculated on. It does seem it takes awhile to cause issues. Up to 30 days after exposure. And trapped air in a room of an infected person is highly contagious. Testing people is a moot point if it reoccurs. It does. Only if to catch a spreader. Like someone that’s not wearing THEIR mask. What if the Corona is slow and insidious. It takes its time working it’s way through a humans body. Taking months and coming in waves of intensity. Until it subsides. Like a 6 month flu. Spring time can’t come soon enough.

Thank You Dr. Fauci wanna be

Hallelujah, a vaccine. Can’t wait for the flu vaccine, so that will go away too.
