Two houses destroyed in rural Clear Lake Saturday night

CLEAR LAKE – Two houses were destroyed in a fire outside Clear Lake late Saturday night.

The Clear Lake Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in rural Clear Lake Saturday evening at 10:22 PM. The address of the incident was 10089 230th Street, the department says. The property is owned by the estate of Raymond Hayes. The Clear Lake Fire Department responded with 3 engine companies, 1 ambulance and 1 support vehicle with a total of 15 firefighters. Also responding in mutual aid support to assist with water delivery were 2 engine and 8 firefighters from Ventura Fire Department as well as Swaledale Fire Department with 3 tankers with 6 firefighters. Upon arrival of the first responding units, the house was completely involved in fire and was threatening an adjacent house on the same property. Efforts were made to to protect this adjacent house. Both homes on the property were vacant at the time of the fire.

Damage is estimated at $80,000.

There were no injuries.

Cause of the fire is under investigation.

Also assisting at the scene were Alliant Energy and the Cerro Gordo County Sherriff’s Office.
