DES MOINES – Iowa has set a record for absentee ballot requests at over 700,000, the state’s top election official says.
Iowa Secretary or State Paul Pate reports that more than 700,000 Iowans have requested absentee ballots for the 2020 general election, surpassing the state record for absentee requests in an election. The previous high was more than 693,000, set in 2016.
Number of absentee ballot requests and votes in Iowa as of Friday evening:
Democrat: 365,080 requests, 59,768 voted
Republican: 212,385 requests, 23,247 voted
No Party: 123,869 requests, 12,916 voted
Total requests: 703,768; total ballots sent: 689,166; total ballots received: 96,219.
Iowans can vote in-person at most county courthouses now through election day.
