CHARLES CITY – Residential water customers in Charles City who struggled to pay their bills got a reprieve from being shut off during the Covid-19 pandemic, which continues to ravage Iowa, but that short break is over, the City announced.
The City of Charles City is reinstating shut off procedures for water utility accounts starting October 20. The city has suspended water shut offs since March due to the pandemic they said in an email. The shut off procedures will be reinstated starting this month. Delinquent water bills are due by 5:00 p.m. on October 20. If not paid, a tagging fee of $25 will be incurred with shut off scheduled for October 23 for unpaid delinquent bills.
Covid-19 is showing no signs of letting up in Iowa, but most folks in the Hawkeye state are learning to live with the scourge, avoid the virus if possible, and adjust to the new normal that appears to be settling in. Business must continue and resume operations, seems to be the attitude taken by many, including top elected leaders like Governor Kim Reynolds and most Republicans, while some Democrats are calling for more relief for citizens and stricter mask mandates, among other policies.
