CHARLES CITY – A pair of pesky pooches patrolling the hoods of Charles City prompted police to warn of keeping kids and pets penned up.

Charles City police notified the public Wednesday afternoon about to dog attacks and warned there could be more if actions wasn’t taken.

“Officers are currently trying to find a black lab mix and striped pitbull mix in the area of 3rd thru 8th Aves,” police announced. “These dogs were just involved in two attacks. Please keep kids and pets inside. Call if you see them. They could be anywhere on north side of town.”

Charles City residents took note of the social media post from police. One Charles City woman advised, “I highly recommend carrying it in your pocket when you’re out and about for a walk… Especially when walking with children! You just never know!”

Another Charles City woman said, “This appears to be happening alot lately…we had two large dogs running loose a couple weeks ago.
Hope whoever got attacked is ok!”

Police later updated the post, saying, “Witnesses say the brindle (striped) pitbull mix has a purple collar and the black lab mix might have a red color. We have NOT located the dogs and have had no further calls at this time.”

Charles City police further described the attacks, saying, that on October 7 at 11:48 AM, officers “responded to a brindle pitbull dog with a purple collar attacking a person’s dog in the 200 block of 8th Avenue. The dog ran off with a black lab mix dog.”

Then at 11:58 AM, officers “responded to an alley way in the 300 block of 5th Avenue for a call of a person with a dog who was attacked by a black lab mix dog. The dog was possibly wearing a red collar. The dog was running around with a brindle pitbull mix dog which was involved in an earlier attack. The person suffered minor injuries. A passerby assisted the person in getting the dog away.”
