UNI’s Messerli promoted to Associate AD

CEDAR FALLS – UNI Director of Athletics David Harris today announced the promotion of Ben Messerli to the title of Associate Athletics Director for Compliance.

Messerli, a native of Marion, Iowa, came to UNI in 2014 from the University of Tennessee Chattanooga where he served as the Mocs’ Assistant Director of Compliance. During his six years at UNI, Messerli has served as the Assistant Athletics Director of Compliance.

“During his tenure at UNI, Ben has provided leadership in a vital role for our department,” Deputy Director of Athletics Justin Schemmel said. “He has shown a strong dedication to our student-athletes and staff and has done his job with compassion and integrity in often tough situations. This promotion recognizes those attributes and will provide him with an opportunity to assume some additional responsibilities within the Athletics Department.”

Messerli’s primary responsibility is to ensure compliance with NCAA rules and regulations through a combination of education, policy implementation, monitoring and enforcement. He also serves as a liaison to a number of groups across campus including Admissions, Financial Aid, the Registrar’s Office and the Intercollegiate Athletics Advisory Council.

“I’m thankful for the continued support and leadership that David Harris and Justin Schemmel provide to the Compliance Department and the entire UNI Athletics Department,” Messerli said. “I’m excited to continue to support our student-athletes, coaches and staff here at UNI.”

Messerli is a graduate of Wartburg College where he played football and golf for the Knights. He also served as a student defensive assistant for Wartburg football.
