BENTON COUNTY, IOWA – An Iowa teen was killed and five kids were hurt when a van and a bus collided in Benton county Wednesday morning.
The Iowa State Patrol says the accident took place on Wednesday morning, September 16 at about 7:37 AM, one-half mile north of Highway 30 on 15th Avenue. A 2004 Dodge Caravan was Northbound on 15th Avenue as a 2019 Bluebird school bus was southbound. The Caravan dropped off the shoulder multiple times, over-corrected and crossed into the path of the school bus. The Caravan was impacted on the driver’s side. Upon arrival of emergency personnel, the driver of the Caravan, 16-year-old Mackenzie Kvam of Belle Plaine, Iowa, was deceased. The school bus driver, 51-yer-old Allison Hicks of Garrison, Iowa, was not hurt. Five children on the bus had minor injuries.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Belle Plaine Fire, Keystone Fire, Belle Plaine Ambulance, the Iowa DOT, and Tegler’s Towing.
The accident remains under investigation.
