MCPD investigating two weekend shootings

MASON CITY – The Mason City Police Department is investigating two weekend shooting incidents.

The first shooting incident occurred in the 10 block of 3rd Street NW at approximately 3:10 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2020, and was reported on 911. In this incident, a male approached three people in the alley prior to the shooting. Shots were fired by the male as the other fled. No one was injured and police say they have not found any property damage as a result of the shooting.

The second shooting occurred on 3:59 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2020, in the 900-1000 block of North Pennsylvania Avenue. In this incident, two vehicles were traveling north on Pennsylvania and exchanging gunfire. Several residents in the area reported seeing the incident, although neither party has yet contacted police. No one was injured and again, no property has been reported as damaged.

Officers did recover evidence from both scenes. At this time, police say they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community in either incident. Both incidents remain under investigation.
