Todd Blodgett opinion: KYLE RITTENHOUSE: Hero, or Vigilante?

Todd Blodgett of Clear Lake Iowa is an accomplished writer and political strategist. He has been the most-popular writer in the history of the Globe Gazette, been published in numerous news publications, and has written a book, “Republican Crackhead.”

On August 25, 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse left his home in Antioch, Illinois for the 20-minute drive to Kenosha, Wisconsin.  A few hours later, the pro-police Trump supporter, armed with an AR-15, told The Daily Caller he was in Kenosha because “people are getting injured.  Our job is to protect [businesses].”  He spent much of the day cleaning graffiti off of buildings and picking up garbage.  Rittenhouse, who describes himself as a militia member, (no group claims him) is alternately now viewed as a hero and villain.  He’s been charged with murder after shooting, dead, two men and wounding a third. His lawyers he squeezed off rounds in self-defense aw he was attacked, a claim video appears to support.  Kenosha business owners pleaded for concerned citizens to help defend their businesses, because the police were constrained from so doing by Democrats whose duties include ensuring public safety.  Rittenhouse – who is certified as an EMT – decided to answer their call, and showed up, locked and loaded.

“I just got pepper-sprayed by a person in the crowd,” he told a journalist before the shootings began.  Later, a cop tossed water bottles to the 17-year-old and his companions, saying, “we appreciate you guys; we really do.”  Shortly thereafter, Joseph “JoJo” Rosenbaum tried to intimidate Rittenhouse.  JoJo, who was convicted of Class 3 Felony child sex abuse, racked up 42 disciplinary infractions while incarcerated in Arizona, after being sentenced to 12.5 years for two counts of illegal sexual contact with a minor.  Video shows him aggressively taunting the volunteer law enforcers; repeatedly, he said, “Shoot me, [n-word].”  After someone else fired a gun into the air, JoJo lunged at Rittenhouse and threw what’s said to be a Molotov cocktail (gasoline bomb) at him.  Rittenhouse tried to retreat, but JoJo chased him.  The young Trump fan then accommodated JoJo’s demand.  But he was civil about it; as he fired, he didn’t say, “okay, if you insist.”  Incidentally, Rittenhouse and those he shot are either white, or, were.

Many Democrats don’t understand that Kyle Rittenhouse, or someone similar, was inevitable.  These  destructive, leftist rioters and looters, and their supporters – which include elected Democrats – bear full responsibility for his appearance and actions.  Rioters in Minneapolis, Portland, and other cities were lucky; not so the three subversives blown away by Rittenhouse.  But WHAT did these fools THINK would happen, at some point?  Americans don’t want violent losers destroying private and public property, and many favor their eradication.  To them, the lives of counterproductive destroyers of property aren’t as valuable as what they’re annihilating and looting, and the culture they’re trying to decimate.  This kid took action because elected Democrats disallowed the police from enforcing the law and protecting innocent citizens.  His attackers weren’t good Samaritans trying to prevent an incipient mass shooting – which, clearly, wasn’t the teenager’s objective.  When lack of effective law enforcement causes a void, vigilantes appear.  What’s amazing is how long it took, once the rioting commenced, for this tragedy to happen.  An idealistic young man made a sincere effort to protect innocent lives and property.  In so doing, he was violently assaulted by three criminals.  He defended himself effectively, and with restraint.  Readers who don’t see it this way will have trouble understanding that this, now, is our new normal.

Anthony Huber was charged in 2012 of domestic violence, use of a dangerous weapon, strangulation and suffocation and false imprisonment, and convicted on all counts.  Upon his release from prison, but while still on probation, he was convicted of domestic abuse, and disorderly conduct and battery.

But after Rittenhouse had already wasted JoJo, Huber chased him; after the shooter tripped and was on the ground, Huber – a competitive skateboarder – struck Rittenhouse on the head, with his skateboard.  But WHO chases an armed shooter who, moments before, had shot someone, and then beats the dude on the head, with a skateboard?  That’s even dumber than bringing a knife to a gunfight, as Huber found out, the hard way.  Less than one second after Huber took his shot, Rittenhouse took his.  Shortly thereafter, leftist Gaige Paul Grosskreutz, carrying a Glock semi-automatic handgun, ran toward the teenager.  But if this third attacker thought that the third time would be a charm, he was wrong.  From a sitting position, the kid fired a round which largely obliterated Grosskreutz’s bicep.  But for this perp, it was par for the course.  Doctors say he’ll survive, albeit disarmed.  As a felon, Mr. Grosskreutz illegally possessed his gun.  In 2013, he was charged with felony burglary, criminal trespass, theft, and disorderly conduct.  He’s also a member of a leftist fringe organization called ‘The People’s Radical Movement of Milwaukee’ – AKA, to Democrats, as a “social justice reform group”.  He was also arrested in 2017.  Rittenhouse’s targets weren’t model citizens, and their comeuppance was inevitable.  Many Americans are actually rather pleased with what transpired in Kenosha.

By illegally bringing a firearm to Wisconsin and openly carrying it, Kyle Rittenhouse committed a Class A misdemeanor.  Even under Illinois Code, he’s not of legal age to carry an AR-15, so there’s that.  But to many US citizens, he’s a hero – as proven by FaceBook postings and interviews of ordinary Americans.  Go to to a VFW, or an American Legion, or basically any bar in north Iowa; log onto YouTube, and see  abundant support for him.  Even talk show hosts and journalists, including Ann Coulter and Tucker Carlson, speak favorably of this young man.   JoJo, now in his afterlife – wherever that may be – may have already been reminded of what many people learn while alive: Be careful what you wish for.

>From every angle, every video shows Rittenhouse’s shots to be in self-defense, which can exonerate him.  But the organized leftists who run GoFundMe.com already decided he’s the bad guy.  Despite allowing pages to remain on its website on behalf of the three criminals shot by Rittenhouse, GoFundMe removed the page requesting funds for him.  Kenosha chief of Police Dan Miskinis blamed protesters for these deaths, because they violated curfew.  While many Democrats are dismissive of reality, their cavalier attitudes may cost them.  That’s because now, the game is ON – and tear gas won’t resolve the underlying issues impelling rioters with a radical agenda.  Regarding the two violent felons Rittenhouse took out, many Americans see no downside.  “Good riddance” is how LOTS of lawful taxpayers see it.  After all, his attackers were a pedophile, a wife-beater and a professional anarchist.  Karma is a Bitch to avoid, but evildoers who keep up their ways can end up – one way, or another – getting smashed by her.

Since May, Americans have seen mayors and governors in multiple states allow violent protesters, looters and arsonists, to plunder, burn, and even kill.  In some cases, law-abiding taxpayers are moving out.  But other citizens, even teenagers like Kyle Rittenhouse, won’t only stand their ground – they’ll take out the trash.  If any violent perps try doing their thing in either of the two cities I call home – one, in north Iowa; the other, in east Texas – they’ll last about as long as a cricket in a hen house.  Do these arrogant thugs and their clueless, pseudo-tough comrades realize that defunding the police means that even more Kyle Rittenhouses will keep order, protect property and innocent lives, and enforce the laws?

Such foolish, lawless instigators of destruction don’t know it, but they’ve instigated a losing battle.  That’s because the genie is now out of the bottle.  These creeps may yet end up like the passenger pigeon and the T-rex – and won’t be missed by lawful, taxpaying, America-loving Americans.  In fact, most people I’ve spoke to about this would love to see them gone, forever.
