MASON CITY – A suspect is being sought after a late night shooting in East Park left a woman hospitalized with a bad leg.
Mason City police say that on Monday, August 10, 2020, at approximately 1:52 am, Officers with the Mason City Police Department responded to East Park, 802, 3ral St NE, for a report that a female had been shot in the leg. Medical aid was provided to the victim, who was transported to Mercy Hospital. Her injuries were not life threatening.
Officers interviewed witnesses and recovered a handgun at the scene. The shooting occurred inside of a vehicle at the park. During the investigation, Donovan Ward was identified as the shooting suspect. Ward fled the scene after the shooting. The Mason City Police Department has applied for an arrest warrant for Ward for Willful Injury — a class D felony. Ward’s whereabouts are currently unknown, but we do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.
