At least she stopped and provided aid to this guy. He should be charged also with no helmet.

I guess I am a dumb MF, I thought readers could differentiate whether a reply was in response to a comment or to the article.

You should never ride into on coming traffic, that means you are riding on the left side of the road. A cyclist needs to obey the traffic laws.

You DUMB motherFer It said that were both going the same way, south.

I taught my kids to ride facing oncoming traffic so they could clearly see cars coming and make sure they are out of the way. A bicyclist cannot rely on drivers to give leeway when so many aren’t paying attention. Your ability to live exists on your own intelligence. The same applies to drivers of cars… Now I don’t buy the excuse that the driver didn’t see the bicyclist when traveling South, had it been East I might have. Seems there’s blame for both to share.

The law states that bicyclists are supposed to follow the traffic laws. Therefore they should ride with the traffic. Pedestrians and runners are supposed to face the traffic.

Is only recommended to wear a helmet on a bicycle in Iowa it is not the law how is this person charged with the ticket?

Actually the article only states that he wasn’t wearing a helmet, not that he was charged with it. But let’s admit that he should have been wearing a helmet because it’s a smart thing to do. 🙂

That’s the difference in rural Iowa. There’s an accident and the woman who hits him helps him get medical care. In Chicago they hit you and then rob you and leave you to die.

Put a flashing red light on your bicycle even for daytime riding. It may not help but cyclist need to improve the odds anyway possible. It is not if you get hit but when.
