RURAL CHARLES CITY – A Charles City woman riding a bicycle was struck by a pickup truck Sunday and seriously hurt.
The accident took place south of Charles City on Shadow Avenue just north of 240th Street at about 7:40 PM Sunday, August 2. According to the Iowa State Patrol, a 2017 Ford F-150 operated by 43-year-old Colby Elliot of Clarksville was traveling southbound on Shadow Avenue as a bicyclist, 28-year-old Ellen Bengtson of Charles City, was also traveling southbound. Elliot failed to observe Bengston and an collision apparently occurred and Bengston was hurt.
As a result, the Floyd county sheriff’s office, Charles City Fire, AMR Ambulance Service and Mercy Air Med Helicopter all responded to the scene. Bengston was taken by Mercy Air Med Helicopter to Mercy Hospital in Mason City.
The incident remains under investigation.
Later, Bengston passed away due to the incident.
