MASON CITY – Tragically, Mason City police say a missing woman’s remains have been found in the Winnebago River.
On Saturday, July 18, 2020, at approximately 5:52 p.m., the Mason City Police Department responded to a report of human remains found in the Winnebago River near the Illinois Avenue bridge. A kayaker had discovered the remains while paddling the river. After completing an initial investigation, the remains were collected for analysis and investigation.
Last week, the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office was able to definitively determine through the use of dental records that these remains were those of Jane Schreur. Schreur was reported missing to MCPD on November 22, 2019, after last being seen by her family in May 2019.
Over the past several days, MCPD has been assisted in the investigation by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the STAR1 Search and Rescue Team.

How many other missing person reports have been reported in Mason City but have been ignored?
None!
Why wasn’t this posted all over the news that she was missing last May of 2019? Why aren’t they dragging the river for more remains? You find one human part surely there are more bones to locate.. this poor family. They made innuendos about her health & history. It makes no difference if this person was addicted to drugs or mentally ill, etc. if a person is missing the media should have been notified and search teams developed. Did anymore bother to check her cell phone? See who her last contact was and/or last location it pinged at? Dang!

Other then that, you’ll have to ask the family, why.
