Ambulance called in Charles City after car strikes teen on moped

CHARLES CITY – An ambulance responded to the scene in Charles City after a car struck a teen on a moped.

The accident took place on July 17, 2020. At about 2:25 PM that day, officers with the Charles City police department responded to a car versus moped accident at the intersection of North Jackson Street and Clark Street. A red 2009 moped operated by a 15-year-old male pulled from the stop sign on Clark Street heading east and was struck by a red 2014 Hyundai operated by 57-year-old Lisa Swaney of Charles City. Police say damage from the collision was about $2,500. AMR Ambulance responded to the scene to evaluate one person.

No sympathy. Kid that young knows the rules. Hope he gets charged, fined, and his folks have to pay all costs plus putative damages. In this “I’m entitled” world we live in, it’s about time people pay a price for their mistakes. Unless of course he’s black, then it’s ok.

If you look at that intersection, you will see the curve to the South. Just a guess, there were cars along there and moped rider couldn’t see a car coming.

I do agree, it probably was the riders fault. I would also bet that there are a lot of accidents at that intersection.
