Fort Dodge

FORT DODGE – Someone in Fort Dodge shot a man in the face and torso with a flare gun then beat the victim, police say, as they seek a suspect.

On Tuesday, July 21 at approximately 8:42 P.M., the Webster County Telecommunications Center received a report of an assault that had just occurred. Information provided indicated that a male assaulted another male in the 500 block of South 15th Street. The callers indicated the suspect had fled the area to the south immediately following the incident.

Officers with the Fort Dodge Police Department, along with the Fort Dodge Fire Department arrived and scene and began treating the 52‐year‐old male victim. The initial investigation on scene indicated that a male had shot at least two rounds from a suspected flare gun at the victim, striking him in the upper torso and face area. After firing the flares at the victim, the offender began striking the victim with an unknown instrument before fleeing the area. The victim was transported to Unity Point – Trinity Regional Medical Center for non‐life‐threatening injuries.

The Fort Dodge Police Department is continuing the investigation into this incident and encourage anyone who may have information to contact the police. It is believed that this is an isolated incident between two individuals, and not a random act.
