MASON CITY – Mason City police were hired to protect Republicans at the latest Cerro Gordo county GOP meeting.
Mason City chief of police Jeff Brinkley confirmed to NIT today that “GOP Chair Barb Hovland hired an off-duty officer for their meeting on July 6. Hiring a MCPD officer for overtime requires a 3-hour minimum. That cost is currently $53/hour for a total of $159.”
According to sources inside the meeting, Mrs. Hovland – who has been in charge of Republicans in Cerro Gordo county since 2014 – scolded some in attendance for telling NIT what goes on at the meetings, saying, “you know who you are.” This verbal thrashing comes on the heals of the June Cerro Gordo GOP meeting, in which NIT reported “tempers flare, tears flow, resignations fly” at that possibly chaotic meeting where some stormed out of the room.
Our source tipped off NIT to the police presence, and added, “she made a point to tell us that she paid for the police presence out of her pocket. She said, ‘it was OUR money!'”
I’m about to pop some popcorn and settle in for how this all turns out.

The City of Mason City was paid the fee. Not likely the policeman can be off-duty if the City is charging the fee. If he was off-duty he would become a security guard and the City would have no role in the matter. Hello?

The cops starting coming to the meetings because Eric and Scott were afraid. Scott thought a sniper would shoot him through a window in the library. That nut and his bad haircut moved to Indiana.
