MASON CITY – The Cerro Gordo County Community Foundation announced $124,761.37 in grant funding to 40 projects of organizations serving Cerro Gordo County as part of its 2020 grant cycle.
The Community Foundation made the decision to not hold its annual award celebration due to COVID-19. Grant checks will be mailed directly to the nonprofit organizations.

Decisions on grant awards are determined by a local committee, which consists of volunteers from Cerro Gordo County. Committee members include: Shaun Arneson, Tim Coffey, John Drury, Julie Kaduce, Marty Ramaekers, Gary Schmit, Margo Underwood and Adam Wedmore (chair).
Grants are awarded through Cerro Gordo County Community Foundation’s competitive grant process to projects in the program areas of: art and culture, community betterment, education, environment, health, historic preservation and human service. Grant applicants must be a 501(c)(3) designated organization or government entity serving Cerro Gordo County in order to be considered for funding. The 2021 grant cycle opens January 1, 2021 with an application deadline of April 8, 2021. The grant guidelines and application will be posted prior to the cycle opening at www.cerrogordoccf.org.

If schools are going to be closed any library needs as many computer stations as possible. In the future it may be necessary to get rid of teachers and not library staff.
Why does the MC public library get anything? With the present staff doing as little as they do (sitting at their desks, checking their e-mails, reading books and magazines, or talking on their cell phones) the city could get rid of two of the deadweight personnel and use that money for necessary things. Hardly anyone uses the library anymore, and of those that do, 98% sit in the commons and talk. They could do that at the park, or when Mac’s and Hardees opens, go there and support a local business.
is this necessary, when a time of lower revenues is upon us???? couldn’t that money be used for something useful????
Well, ya, it is necessary for the community foundation to give grants because that money came from gambling dollars and are required to be given away- they are not tax dollars. Can you suggest how that money could better be used? Because it has to be given to a non-profit or a gov AND it’s competitive which means that organization must write a grant, maybe suggest an organization and tell them to write a grant?

Because I am not married, my mother is dead, I have 3 brothers, and have 3 dogs and all three are female. I know that is hard for someone of your limited capacities to understand, but that means the only females in my ‘family’ are dogs.
