Riots cause civil emergency in Davenport on Monday morning

Davenport, Iowa

DAVENPORT, IOWA – A civil emergency was declared for Davenport, Iowa, early Monday morning after violence erupted in the streets and several people were shot.

Scott County Emergency Management advised all residents to shelter in place immediately. The agency declared a civil emergency at 12:23 AM Monday, June 1, 2020. Due to civil unrest in the Davenport area, the Davenport police department and city officials requested all residents stay in their homes and shelter in place until further notice.

Reportedly, two people were killed by gunshots and at least two others, including a police officer, were shot. The officer survived after being hospitalized.

NorthPark Mall in Davenport was the scene of moving protests and rioters.  The mall closed down on Sunday for the “safety of shoppers,” according to a social media post.

KWQC reported that “Davenport’s Mayor Matson said he will be speaking with Gov. Kim Reynolds this morning and is requesting assistance from the Iowa National Guard in coordinating a response.”
