Tara Reade’s attorney quits case against Joe Biden as questions mount

Tara Reade

NEW YORK – The lawyer who represented Tara Reade in her sex assault case against Joe Biden has abruptly quit the case as the accuser faces mounting scrutiny.

Numerous reports have surfaced this weekend that Douglas Wigdor, a New York attorney and ardent Donald Trump supporter, released a statement to some media saying, “Our firm no longer represents Tara Reade” and “is by no means a reflection” on the veracity of her claims that Joe Biden assaulted her in a hallway in Congress back in 1993.

Only about two weeks ago, Wigdor posted a bold proclamation on its Facebook page announcing the firm’s representation of Tara Reade:

Wigdor LLP has the privilege of representing former Joe Biden staffer #TaraReade, who publicly accused the former VP of sexually assaulting her in 1993 while she was a staff assistant to the U.S. Senator. Our representation of Tara Reade has nothing to do with politics. We at Wigdor LLP firmly believe that every survivor of sexual assault has the right to competent legal counsel, and we will represent Ms. Reade zealously, just as we would any other victim of sexual violence. Ms. Reade will be heard shortly in an interview conducted by Megyn Kelly and produced by Rich McHugh, and she will describe to the American public what happened to her. Her harrowing account is credible and supported by numerous “outcry” witnesses from decades ago.
It is inevitable that partisan politics will lead people to attack our firm and Mr. Wigdor specifically, particularly given his support of Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign. However, any objective view of Mr. Wigdor’s career and the history of the Firm (which is comprised of partners, lawyers and staff from all political parties) belie such a false narrative and make clear that our representation is simply a continuation of our objective support of all legitimate victims. We have decided to take this matter on because every survivor has the right to competent counsel, and that is exactly what we will provide. As Mr. Biden himself has acknowledged, “believing women means taking the women’s claims seriously when she steps forward, and then vet[ting] it and look[ing] into it . . . women have a right to be heard.” We will help Ms. Reade be heard.

Evidently, now, Wigdor will not be helping Reade be heard. The law firm makes no mention of dropping Reade on its Facebook page, but continues to display the post about bringing her on as a client.  Wigdor is reportedly a strong supporter and financial contributor to President Donald Trump, who, himself, has numerous claims against him from women for questionable behavior towards them, spent quality time with dead madman Jeffrey Epstein, said he might date his own daughter, and made a famous proclamation that grabbing women by their reproductive organ is a great technique even if they are married.

Biden has denied Reade’s claims and said no one should vote for him if they believe her.

Recent days have brought turbulence to Tara Reade’s life as she got on board the hell-bound #metoo train.  Reports mount daily with questions regarding her claims of having a college degree, her history as a renter, about whether she provided false testimony in cases that could exonerate dangerous criminals, her mental status, questions about her connection to Vladimir Putin, financial hardships and how her story has morphed over time.
