MASON CITY – With regret, CG Public Health has confirmed the first death associated with novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the county. The individual was an adult in the 41-60 years of age range.
“We wish to extend our deepest sympathy to this individual’s loved ones,” said Brian Hanft, the Director of CG Public Health. “The health department and all of our key partners throughout the county and state continue to work to limit the spread and impact of this virus in our communities.”
All residents should:
- Stay home as much as possible when over the age of 60 or have an underlying condition
- Wear a face mask or covering when social distancing is hard to do, (especially since some infected individuals are asymptomatic)
- Stay home when even mildly ill (the kind of illness that normally wouldn’t prevent you from your everyday activities)
- Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your elbow/upper arm.
- Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

The peak is in Minnesota right now. Yes, it does appear their will be a second wave later on. Opening up the economy and it will do you little good in the coming months. 10% national unemployment will be here for a couple years. No, the planned economic ‘snapping’ back to pre-coronie levels of revenue will not happen. Too many people have lost their jobs due to mass closing. Never to be reopened. Unemployment has reached 20% worldwide and our economy is the biggest, ever. Over 100,000 people have most likely succumb to the virus in roughly 60 days. No 4th, no fair, no mass gatherings for the summer. Just maybe it might be a smart move to just plan on online schooling for the rest of the year. There is a 100% chance a second wave will hit. This is like smallpox/polio. It’s not going away and it is not the flu. We need a shot. Don’t take it. Don’t work.
And all school kids will get the shot. Just like swine flu shots of the 70’s. Government Mandate. There has been speculation on a national level that the childcare industry has been hit extremely hard by closures.
Word is that it was a 40 year old female at Mercy. But we will never know the truth about what she died from.

Kiss my ass covid reporting. My dad died from cancer, but is now reported as first covid death in Goodhue country. He tested negative till his death but since he was in a facility where there were cases it gets recorded as covid. Nursing home gets money that way. How many times does this happen??
Sorry Darlene, but nursing homes are not getting more money for reporting a covid-related death. The coroner is the one who determines cause of death.
