Top Iowa Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate cancels appearance due to Des Moines hate crimes

Admiral Mike Franken

DES MOINES – The top Iowa Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate has canceled an appearance due to a rash of alleged hate crimes in Des Moines.

Admiral Mike Franken was saddened, he said, to announce that his appearance with Urban Dreams has been canceled due to Des Moines area hate crimes.

“I am disgusted and disappointed by recent hate crimes in Des Moines,” Franken said. “We have to be better than that.”

In recent days, alleged hate crimes have taken place in Iowa’s capitol city, including the beating of a young black male by white attackers.

The event will be rescheduled.

Franken continued: “I look forward to meeting with Urban Dreams to discuss what I can do to help Iowa’s urban communities.”

Franken was recently endorsed by the Des Moines Register as the Democrat of choice to face Republican incumbent Joni Ernst, who has been accused of hiding campaign finance information.

Hate crimes have supposedly spiked ever since the election of Donald J. Trump to the presidency.
