WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Post reports today that taxpayers are shelling out hundreds of thousands of dollars for hotel stays at President Donald Trump’s hotels.
David Fahrenthold of the Washington Post reported this morning that the U.S. government has paid at least $970,000 to President Donald Trump’s businesses since Trump took office.
“That includes at least **1,600** nightly room rentals at Trump properties,” Fahrenthold said.
“Here’s the biggest bill we’ve found so far from Mar-a-Lago to taxpayers: $32,484.30 after Trump’s Xmas vacation this past winter. That’s 82 room-nights for the Secret Service, at $396.15 each.”
As part of an examination of Trump’s dealing with taxpayers and his own hotels, Fahrenthold reported that “Trump Org has claimed it charges taxpayers ‘like 50 bucks’ for these rooms. We looked at 1,600 room rentals at Trump’s properties. Not one of them fit that description.”
Since Inauguration Day, the Post reports, “Trump’s business has charged taxpayers for: –950 room rentals at Trump Bedminster (at $142/night) –530 rentals at Mar-a-Lago (at $396 to $650/night).”
