Authorities search for missing Mason City fisherman in Worth county

NORTHWOOD – A Mason City man has gone missing in a Worth county river after his fishing boat became entangled with a wire.

On Friday, March 27, 2020 at 12:12 PM, the Worth County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a male subject that was missing in the Winnebago river. First responders were sent to the address of 342nd Street in between Finch & Grose Ave., where the reporting party was located. He stated him and the male were fishing on a boat when it became entangled in a cable that was across the river. Search efforts were started to locate the missing male shortly after arrival and ran until dark which were unsuccessful in locating the male. On Saturday, March 28, 2020 at 7:00 AM, search efforts were resumed to try and locate the male subject. The search was scheduled to continue until dark if the male hadn’t been located. Searching will resume Sunday morning.

The male victim in this case is being identified as Adam D. Vansyoc, age 43 of Mason City.

Agencies assisting the Worth County Sheriff’s Office at the scene have been the Iowa State patrol, Iowa State patrol aircraft, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office, Hanlontown, Fertile, Northwood, Clear Lake, and Ventura fire Departments, Forest City Ambulance, Worth County Emergency Management, Worth County IT, Mercy Air Med, Iowa Underwater Search and Rescue, Worth County Secondary Roads, HyVee of Forest City.
