Blodgett Opinion: YES, IT’S A CHINESE VIRUS

Todd Blodgett

Are the restaurant owners I know – who are great people, from China – racists, because they refer to their fare as “Chinese food”? What about Greek olives, Spanish omelettes, and French vanilla? Is it racist to call pastries “Danish”? Some clueless, politically correct activists say so, but they’re wrong. Donald Trump, for decades, has correctly said that “bad things” originate in China. His long-held suspicions about the Chi-Coms now seem fully justified, even prescient. The Coronavirus pandemic also makes it easier for him to close off the US to foreigners; even Canada’s leftist Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, and Mexico’s socialist President, Lopez Obrador, are cooperating. Trump’s nationalism now seems more ordinary, wise – and not at all extreme. His critics will marginalize themselves, and be rightfully viewed by likely voters as willing to jeopardize public safety, if they continue yapping. It’s a FACT that China’s leaders tried to cover up the news of this virus, and then LIED about it. Worse, the Chi-Coms even claimed that American soldiers had, somehow, caused this international health scourge.

China

China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Zhao Lijian, shamelessly LIED, repeatedly. In a Feb. 2 tweet, Zhao wrote, “It might be US Army …”, and “US owe us explanation.” China’s ambassador to South Africa said, “Justice always speak loudly.” The progress that some believed that some Chi-Coms have made, in properly communicating in English, appears to be overrated; China’s Foreign Minister and ambassador to South Africa speak like characters in a Jackie Chan movie. Political correctness has permeated the Left – despite, as journalist Rick Gladstone of The New York Times wrote on March 19, “many of the world’s biggest epidemics have been traced to China.” Among others, there’s the Asian flu of 1957; 1968’s Hong Kong flu; the 2003 SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) epidemic, to name a few. Dr. Li Wenliang was the Wuhan physician who the Chi-Coms punished, for having been honest, after repeatedly warning, early in this outbreak, about SARS-like cases. This doc, who died of Coronavirus, had warned that a troubling cluster of viral infections, if not stopped in time, could grow out of control.

He was exactly right. But on December 30, 2019, he was called in by some Chi-Com honchos and the police, who forced him to denounce his warnings as unfounded and describe the scourge as a nasty rumor. Days before he died, he told The New York Times, “If the officials had disclosed the information earlier, it would’ve been a lot better. I acted out of goodwill. I felt I was wronged, but had to accept it.”

Rally-around-the-flag scenarios help incumbents who take decisive and defensive action, as Trump has, against this virus. Most Americans favor limiting international travel and restricting who gets into America, and closing US borders, to facilitate containment efforts. How doesn’t this comport with Mr. Trump’s world view? Americans were leery of, and angry over, globalization BEFORE the virus hit. Yes, coronavirus transcends borders, and President Trump’s consistent advocacy of restricting immigration and tightening our borders looks sweet these days. As to how this crisis might affect the presidential election, time is on Trump’s side: election day is still seven months away. A massive economic stimulus, including direct payments to US citizens, will likely mitigate the fall-out for US citizens. Democrat Mike Ceraso worked for Bernie Sanders in 2016 and was Pete Buttigieg’s New Hampshire campaign manager. He said, “the initial mishandling of the coronavirus … doesn’t mean voters will penalize Trump in November.” Leftists who denigrate President Trump for calling it a “China virus”, or “Chinese virus”, are wrong.

It’s not racist, just as it wasn’t bigoted to have named other maladies the ‘Hong Kong flu’ or the ‘West Nile virus’. Coronavirus was originally called the “Wuhan virus” by medical researchers, doctors, and news outlets – and even by Chinese professionals. The Chi-Coms also called it “Wuhan coronavirus” and then, the “China coronavirus”. Would these clueless Democrats prefer we call it the ‘Kung Fu Flu’?

Todd,
It is indeed a china virus, however the media and democrats have taken it to the next level.
We have known each other for a long time and I have never seen such childish behavior perpetuated by them to date.
This November will be one to remember unless the president comes out and announces all elections will be postponed until Nov. 2022.

The Chinese Bat Soup Flu has certainly clarified some of the blurred lines between what is important and what is frivolous garbage. Yet, in a time when millions of Americans are at risk of dying as a direct result of ChiCom conspiracies and the bizarre need of its serfs to eat any weird thing that crawls or slithers within reach of their chopsticks, our useless elite is fixated on making sure we don’t hurt the feelz of the very people who stuck us in this predicament.

The big beef from the media is that he insists on accurately attributing the Chinese coronavirus to China. The rest of the media’s lame critiques seem to center on him not using his magical ESP to sense the pandemic months ago – and down the memory hole has gone the collective lib panty-wetting that greeted his visionary decision to ban travel from China.

Not using the full military to fight the pandemic shows the extreme ineptness and corruptness of the current federal administration. Instead of writing about finger pointing the writing here ought to be about coming together to work together to fight the pandemic.

While political hacks like Nancy Pelosi thwart the dear leader in DC, just to push a stupid lame game, the white house tries to get things moving. If the Democrats would quit trying to hold every little thing hostage, to add in more of their failed agenda, this wouldn’t be needlessly costing the lives more Americans than absolutely necessary.
So, yes the speed bumps are the Democrats holding things up just to get their agenda pushed through.

@ Mr. Dick Witham: You posted, below, that, “Todd Blodgett is an expert in one thing, and one thing only – brown nosing.” Really? How’s that, sir?

Anyone who knows me knows I speak my mind, and always have – even if doing so offends people. If I’m such a brown-noser, then why have I offended Republicans, by advising several Democrats on how to get elected?

I’ve criticized President Trump, even publicly, on several issues where I thought he was wrong. I’ve never been anything even remotely close to a brown-noser; even as a student in Mason City, I probably had more run-ins with teachers, Principals, and fellow students, than just about any of my classmates!

That’s because I speak my mind, and tell it like I see it, regardless of the potential consequences.

You’re way off-base, sir.

Plenty. For one, I totally oppose the aspect of the tax bill he signed in Dec., 2017, which limits the federal deductibility of SALT (State and Local Taxes) to $10,000.

This must be repealed, or at least, he should raise that limit to $35,000. That’s only fair.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer outlined a radical proposal that some Democrats believe would help stimulate the economy. “You lose your job because of this crisis, or any other reason, the federal government will pay you your full salary for four to six months — we’re trying to get six — for the whole time. And that way you will have money for every month. You will have money at the same level you were making before, and you could be able to at least pay your bills, and then if the crisis is over you’ll go back to your old job because you’ll have your bills — the company will just furlough you — and that’ll work.” If these are the sort of hair-brain schemes the Democrats are proposing on the Hill, it’s no wonder it’s taking this long to get a stimulus package together.

Donald Trump’s use of the term “Chinese virus” or “Chinese coronavirus” is a matter of geographic fact (a fact that was echoed by the mainstream media until recently). German measles was first discovered in Germany; the Ebola virus was first discovered near the Ebola river, and Chinese coronavirus was discovered in China. While Whoopi Goldberg blames “Mother Nature,” the virus is stamped with the recognizable letters “Made in China.”

Anonymous

Not only was the Chinese coronavirus discovered in China, its global delivery was guaranteed by the Chinese government. The Chinese communist regime actively and repeatedly prevented the spread of information regarding the coronavirus, simultaneously permitting the real spread of the virus itself. China’s government is directly responsible for the global spread of their coronavirus, meaning that Trump’s implication of a possessive is entirely justified.

Anonymous

Two things can be true at once. 1.) Calling coronavirus a “Chinese virus” is not racist. It’s a statement of fact. 2.) Those who are using this fact as an excuse to discriminate against or attack Chinese or Asian individuals are ignorant, racist, and morally abhorrent. Our priority must be to survive. Specifically, to survive the Chinese coronavirus.

Dick Witham

Trump, the master of avoiding responsibility, likes to blame Obama and the media and the Chinese and anything else that bounces around in his “greatest brain” the world has ever known, for COVID-19.

Trump failed the defining test of his presidency in his Oval Office address on the coronavirus. He turned to a format meant to calm the nation, provide clarity, and offer a clear plan of action, but accomplished none of those things.
On the contrary, he left Americans more anxious, more confused, and looking elsewhere for a plan.

Trump’s address to the nation was doomed to fail. It was delivered by a president who ignores inconvenient truths, disdains expertise, views events solely through the lens of his political interests, and fails to look beyond the news cycle.
This dynamic has been exacerbated by an information flow into and out of the White House that reflects Trump’s worst instincts—his desire to be flattered and his deafness to any form of criticism.

As to Todd Blogett, his version of social distancing is to quarantine in Trump’s ass. And somehow from inside Trump’s ass he still manages to pat Trump on the back while simultaneous giving him a standing ovation.
No, Todd Blodgett is an expert in one thing and one thing only – brown nosing.

No president can ever predict what crisis will consume his presidency, even if he can be assured that something will. What a president can do is run his White House in a way that gives him the best chance to succeed in a crisis. Because of how the Trump White House operates, it was set up to fail.

Right on Dick. You are speaking truth yet many will dismiss the truth as fake news. We were told January 11th of the virus. We did not take action. Trump didn’t think it was necessary. He uses Chinese virus to deflect away from his lack of action to turn on someone easy to blame as he does with all his gaffes. He is the 2nd man on Earth who has never been wrong.

I think some things the administration is doing right now are good. I also think they are trying to cover up earlier mistakes. If they want to reassure the nation, they should not let Trump speak at every news conference. All he does is provide ‘information’ that will be disproved by the next speaker-except Pence who would kiss Trump’s butt regardless of what he did.

On April 15, 2009, the first infection was identified in California, according to the CDC, and less than two weeks later, on April 26, 2009, the Obama administration declared a public health emergency. The day before, on April 25, the World Health Organization had declared a public health emergency.

Dr. Richard Besser, then-acting director of the CDC, confirmed to the press on the day of the U.S. declaration that there were 20 cases of H1N1 in the U.S., and that “all of the individuals in this country who have been identified as cases have recovered.”
