UNI’s Katie Taylor named MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year

ST. LOUIS, Missouri – Katie Taylor was named the 2019-20 MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for swimming and diving. Taylor earned MVC All-Conference first-team honors and maintained a 3.97 GPA to be named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She also won the 200 back and finished in the top-eight in six other events at the MVC Championships

The Panthers had 16 other athletes named to the Scholar-Athlete list, including Anika Lilegard-Bouton, Sydney Schmidt, Taylor Hogan, Ashleigh Houlette, Rachelle Houlette, Jenna Lynn Willer, Grace Considine, Kylie Engstrom, Kassidy Lovig, Anna Penning, Payton Hall, Jordan McCullough, Cassandra Summers, Madeline Webb, and Rachel Studer, and Sarah Walpole.

Coach Nick Laikin said, “This is another testament to the work the student athletes are doing here at UNI. To excel both in the classroom and in the pool can be challenging, but our athletes continue to make the right decisions along with being willing to do whatever it takes to reach both their team and individual goals.”

To be eligible for Scholar-Athlete honors, athletes must either earn all-conference honors with a 3.3 GPA, finish in the top 16 in an individual event with a 3.5 GPA, or participate in the MVC Championships with a 3.8 GPA.
