Senator Amanda Ragan focused on improving the learning environment for all students

Amanda Ragan

The following is a legislative update from State Senator Amanda Ragan, representing Franklin, Butler and Cerro Gordo counties:

Teachers and schools will have more tools for addressing disruptive student behavior, if a bill that passed the Senate becomes law.

Under SF 2360, there will be new guidelines for handling violent behavior in classrooms, including standards for “classroom clears,” a technique used to calm a disruptive student by removing all other students from the classroom.

The legislation does the following:

  • Sets up a competitive grant program that will help schools create therapeutic classrooms to provide intensive help for students who need it. Therapeutic classrooms are designed to be short-term breaks for students to “reset” and develop new coping strategies before returning to their regular classroom. Schools may collaborate or partner with local nonprofits and mental health agencies to establish a regional therapeutic classroom.
  • Provides funding to train educators on how to manage classroom disruptions and address student behavior.
  • Increases job and whistleblower protections for teachers who report violence and personal attacks to school administrators and the police.

New information and data will be collected from schools so that we can see how often incidents of violence and classroom clears occur. This will help us continue to make improvements that ensure safe and productive learning environments for all Iowa students.

SF 2360 is a step toward fixing what has become an overwhelming concern for our schools.

I think Senator Amanda Ragan, has been serving her own ideals in the Iowa Senate long enough. While she has done a great job of never wanting to stop spending our money, making sure the government is more involved in our everyday lives and representing teachers, its time for a change.

Then put your beanie in the ring and become a candidate. What is your platform?

Oh, so anyone that thinks its time for a change needs to run for office, otherwise we should continue with the status quo? And how are you related to the Ragan’s?

Not related. Just think rather than bitching all the time about the job someone else is doing, you should do one of two things – show how you would do it differently or become an agent of change. You just want to bitch.

maybe you ought to do something then cuz it sounds like you no so much do it your own self yes.

Back in the day, those therapeutic classrooms were AKA the Principals Office. And the short-term breaks for students to “reset” were code for a student got their ass swatted with the paddle, then your parents were notified and more than likely you got it again when you went home. But…that was when people still raised their own children and some people still believed in discipline.

I agree!

Would they also be in favor of closing down I-35 to the rest of the motoring public the next time someone is charged with speeding?

Maybe if you were a teacher you would think differently.
Check with teachers who have disruptive children in there class room and how traumatic is for the students and teachers!!!!!

What does that have to do with anything? It isn’t traumatic to have a class clown. If you’re raising your children to define “truama” as someone not sitting quietly in class than your kids are really gonna suffer serious trauma when they get out into the real world. That isn’t trauma lol you’re dumb. I’ve seen someone get stabbed once, that wasn’t even traumatic because it didn’t happen to me and the guy probably deserved it. It didn’t effect or affect me at all. You’re screwed if you think someone being disruptive is truama. Get mugged sometime by someone who you can see very clearly has zero reservations about cutting your guts out and dropping them on the streets of scottsdale, then you can prattle on about truama.

Hell yeah, she wants to expand the whole, it’s our job as educators to tell your child what their political beliefs are, if your child attempts to disagree with the class fuhrer they will be screamed at belittled and made fun of! I think we need to have a conversation about how to implement punishment for teachers and school employees who attempt to indoctrinate and brainwash our youth into being far left psychophants. Otherwise someone’s gonna have to start smacking these little hippies about without the backing of law.

National left-wing organizations are collecting and funneling hundreds of millions of dollars to flip local city councils, school boards, and county prosecutors’ offices to the left. They are flooding small elections with big money, and it’s giving them unprecedented influence over our local affairs and greater access to our children..

BULLSHIT WARRY

Now that’s funny right there.

Bullshit! Her and people like her are what is wrong with our children today. They believe in nothing but indoctrination.

You must homeschool your kids. I pity them.

Unfortunately they went to MC school. Might explain there attitude.

And your spelling.

I agree.
