Marijuana sales rake in $10 million for Illinois in first month of legal sales

SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS – The Illinois Department of Revenue announced that adult-use cannabis sales generated $7,332,058 in cannabis tax revenue during the month of January, with an additional $3,147,928.29 generated in retail sales tax revenue. Governor Pritzker’s recently released budget conservatively estimated the state would collect $28 million in cannabis tax revenue during the remainder of the fiscal year, ending June 30, 2020. Today’s announcement puts the state on track to surpass that estimate.

Once administrative fees are accounted for, 45% of the adult-use cannabis tax revenue will be reinvested in communities disproportionately impacted by the failed war on drugs and used to fund substance abuse and mental health programs. The $3,147,928.29 in sales tax revenue will be divided between the state’s general revenue fund and the local governments where purchases were made.

“Today marks another milestone in the successful launch of Illinois’ legal cannabis industry. Our goal has been to build the nation’s most socially equitable program that includes new opportunities for the communities most harmed by the failed war on drugs. Revenue raised in this first month will soon begin flowing back into those communities to begin repairing the damage done by the failed policies of the past and creating new opportunities for those who have been left behind for far too long,” said Toi Hutchinson, Senior Advisor to Governor Pritzker for Cannabis Control.

The state collects cannabis revenue in two ways: a variable excise rate dependent on THC potency and type of product, and a 7% cultivators excise tax imposed on the sale of cannabis to retailers. Earlier this month, the state announced that over $39 million in adult-use cannabis product was sold at retail stores.

Last Wednesday, Governor Pritzker released his Fiscal Year 2021 budget, which projected cannabis sales would generate $28 million in cannabis tax revenue for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2020 (ending June 30, 2020). As the industry matures, revenues are estimated to grow to $127 million in FY21, of which $46 million will go to General Funds.

never should have been illegal to begin with, no one has the right to dictate plant preference’s, now let’s see a massive “class action lawsuit” to reclaim all of the personal property, emotional distress caused, discrimination – etc., etc., etc. from the wanna be God persecutors – also the false claim of grandfathering in doesn’t fly. my view on the big fat lies

Yum yum, gummy bears!!!!:)

I see it is useless to post anything, they keep disappearing.

You’re trying to split hairs. I used the same standard that weed advocates use. Tobacco has never killed anyone with an overdose, just like marijuana.
Scientific evidence also links long-term marijuana smoking with chronic bronchitis and respiratory symptoms like coughing and wheezing (there is not an established association between smoking weed and the incidence of lung or head and neck cancer). Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia analyzed a national database of patients, they found the prevalence of heart failure, stroke, coronary artery disease, and sudden cardiac death, were significantly higher in patients with cannabis use, according to results published in 2018.
According to the Centers for Disease and Prevention (CDC), a person is unlikely to die from a marijuana overdose, but this does not mean that there are no risks.
In 2014, Colorado became one of the first states to legalize cannabis for recreational use. Since then, it has seen a significant rise in the number of emergency room visits related to marijuana use.
However, before legalization, people experiencing adverse symptoms due to smoking weed might not have visited an emergency room due to the illegal nature of the substance.
A recent report in Missouri Medicine found that some of the more common illnesses connected to marijuana use have also increased in Colorado since legalization. These include:

cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome (CHS)
acute psychosis
cannabinoid catatonia syndrome
acute myopericarditis

You know, no evidence from credible sources. The point that I made, for those that paid attention, tobacco was treated different in the studies. Marijuana was allowed to be studied, so there isn’t large amounts of data. They know that it causes cardiovascular problems, (it has killed people this way, but it doesn’t count I guess)(https://www.newsweek.com/thc-overdose-death-marijuana-exposure-united-states-1442742) Wouldn’t be the first either. They won’t say that weed caused the death, but there is no other cause.
A French study linked prolonged use to certain mental illnesses. I’m not going to go look that up for you, it’s late.
You and all your little trolls always want anyone that disagrees with you to “prove it, what’s your source?” Well, from now on show yours, we know you don’t have any.

The first and number one thing a heart surgeon finds in the arteries is “calcium” calcium built up in the arteries causing heart disease, strokes, heart attacks etc.

eventually the novelty will wear off Illinois stupid high Democrat tax rate on cannabis will start to miss people off and the black market will thrive because politicians don’t know what the he’ll they are talking about! This states legal cannabis laws are the dumbest so far. More about exploitation and greed than anything else.

People in Colorado buy from the dealer on the street, it’s cheaper. It’s a low risk, low fine if caught action.

40 million duh

Poor ole Iowa. Should’ve, could’ve, would’ve got in on the ground floor of this massive money maker. The beverage industry will eventually own all of the cannabis business. Bah at $10 million. They could’ve of made 3-4 times that and will.

They never tell you about the cost. Ask Colorado, their E.R. and Law enforcement have all sky rocketed. Not to mention all the minors smoking the shit.

Getting you facts from reefer madness are you? Underage and teen usage dropped. So you’re not correct on that point. Why did law encouraged spending more money? Oh ya the state made a surplus of budget money off of cannabis. The schools get a large amount of money from that. maybe you need to go compare the dangers of McDonald to “the shit” as you call a plant that has been proven to have a myriad of clinical use and happens to be the least dangerous recreational substance known to man. CaLm down, nobody is trying to take away your Busch light you ignorant a*s!

Ya? Those er visits…. Do they happen to be actual emergencies or just people who don’t know what they are doing eating five edibles at once? You know cannabis has killed exactly ZERO PEOPLE IN the history of history? Are you dumb or just bad at trolling?

Saying marijuana has never killed anyone is like saying tobacco has never killed anyone. Nobody dies from a tobacco overdose. You can’t smoke yourself to death.
Very few people actually die from alcohol. According to a numbers from the CDC in Dec., 2019, 6 people everyday (365 days X 6 people = 2190) from alcohol poisoning. Now that’s not the number used, just like 0 is not the number used for tobacco deaths.
The number they use include things like car crashes with fatalities, for alcohol, or lung cancer for tobacco.
Advocates for marijuana don’t add these in with their BS statement of “Marijuana has never killed anyone, you can’t smoke enough to overdose.”
Maybe you can’t, but, according to The National Institute on Drug Abuse, “Marijuana is the illicit drug most frequently found in the blood of drivers who have been involved in accidents, including fatal ones,” and citing research that marijuana is increasingly detected in fatal vehicle accidents.
A 19-year-old college student jumped to his death after eating a marijuana-laced cookie purchased at a licensed marijuana store in Colorado. According to CBS News, the autopsy report listed marijuana as a “significant contributing factor” to his death.
Researchers from Germany determined the deaths of two apparently-healthy, young men were in fact the result of marijuana.Researchers concluded, “After exclusion of other causes of death, we assume that the young men died from cardiovascular complications evoked by smoking cannabis.”

There are so many more, they just don’t fit your narrative, so, I guess they don’t count.

Your points are valid but one or two anomalies don’t make for true tests. Look at what the states that have legalized marijuana have done for their citizens with the money that has been generated by legalizing it. Look at the amount of money they have put into education, mental health, infrastructure, rehabilitation services, prevention services and so on. Also, saying cigarettes don’t kill anyone is a big tobacco lie. We have seen the studies and know that cigarette smoking does kill people even those who don’t smoke. It isn’t just one or two cases either. It is hundreds of thousands.

Wanna know how you’re dumb bow? Just because it was present in a blood test doesn’t mean the person was intoxicated. You’re allowed to go ahead and do your research through non biased source’s, but than again that wouldn’t produce your preferred narrative so it would be useless to you. Pandemic over the top argument in the first place. Where do you get your manufactured “facts”?

legal pharmaceuticals have killed, maimed, injured, impaired more people yearly than any other form of violence and or illegal drugs – look it up, also alcohol contributed to more deaths running a close 2nd

CBS news is privately owned by the cabal if anyone believes the majority of the propaganda they are using to brainwash the masses, just look up the “Smith Mundt Act”, it is legal for them to lie – the narrative is controlled, the sheep are easy to deceive –

Colorado’s ER and law enforcement rates have not skyrocketed. That is just an old man spouting off bs he wants to be true but has no proof of it.

He probably used to regurgitate the stories of a guy his cousins best friend knew who met a guy that knew a guy that took lsd and jumped off a roof because he thought he could fly. What’s wrong with some people? gotta hate something you’re to brainwashed to understand, don’t question the biased you formed fifty years ago lol! It’s sad when people get old but never grow. also saying a lot cookie is a major contributing factor to someone jumping off a balcony is grossly negligent. Natural selection is a real thing and it’s out to get the morons. The type of person that gets high on thc and jumps to their death was a useless waste of space and a MORON. We are better off without them. Maybe you didn’t make it through much highschool? The rest of us have been 16 and we know better…

Looks like you are still smoking that funny shit. Your brain is fried.

I think it is your brain that is fried old man. Can you prove any of the bs you post?

“Cannabis legalization has led to significant health consequences, particularly to patients in emergency departments and hospitals in Colorado. The most concerning include psychosis, suicide, and other substance abuse.”

“Cannabis-related ER visits in Colorado jump threefold after legalization, study says”

https://www.cnn.com/2019/03/25/health/edible-cannabis-emergency-visit-study/index.html

“The oft-cited justification for legal marijuana, reducing drug-related violent crime, is not materializing.:
It turns out that legalization of marijuana doesn’t eliminate the illicit black market, but may actually increase competition among rival factions of black-market dealers. State regulation, taxes, cultivation, and supply chain logistics force prices much higher for legal pot than its illegal and unregulated competition. The illegal market persists because most users aren’t inclined to pay premium prices just to avoid committing a very low-level transgression that police are increasingly being asked to ignore.

Downward pressure on prices of illegal pot in legalized states is explained by reduced police enforcement of marijuana laws. The “risk premium” that artificially inflates prices of prohibited substances has been virtually eliminated.”

https://thehill.com/opinion/criminal-justice/430551-is-marijuana-legalization-driving-increases-in-violent-crime

Legalizing POT would be such a great thing, RIIIIIGHT. Yes, sarcasm. It is a horrible idea.

Your right the cabal controls the black markets also – who do you think owns the fields and always has – research on youtube, not from the same source that is behind all of the lies played out daily on every subject used to “control” the masses –

Reading through The Hill article, one will not find any reference to marijuana-related murders nor will one find that marijuana has been a significant factor in those murders. Spinning the news to fit one’s perspective is typical.

We know reading comprehension isn’t your strong point. NO where did I say ANYTHING about,”reference to marijuana-related murders or that marijuana has been a significant factor in those murders.”
Absolutely NO WHERE.
What The Hill article DOES say, that was in my comment, is, “The oft-cited justification for legal marijuana, reducing drug-related violent crime, is not materializing.:”
It also says,”It turns out that legalization of marijuana doesn’t eliminate the illicit black market, but may actually increase competition among rival factions of black-market dealers.”

Where does it say a single word about “marijuana-related murders”, it does not.

PLEASE, go back to 6th grade to learn how to read.
You are trying to be all high and mighty about my comment, if you had an actual point based in reality, we could discuss it. You are not smart enough to bring up a true point from an article that was quoted. Like I said, PLEASE learn to READ.

I would put my reading skills against yours anytime. A quote from your original post “The oft-cited justification for legal marijuana, reducing drug-related violent crime, is not materializing.” “Drug-related” means that it could be any drug, including marijuana. My reference was to that statement and that I saw nothing in The Hill article that says legal marijuana is causing that uptick. It only says it isn’t decreasing. So what? Prove to me that legal marijuana is behind the upward trend and I will grant your point, until then quit being a dick.

“I would put my reading skills against yours anytime. A quote from your original post “The oft-cited justification for legal marijuana, reducing drug-related violent crime, is not materializing.”

Now to what you said.
“Reading through The Hill article, one will not find any reference to marijuana-related murders nor will one find that marijuana has been a significant factor in those murders. ”
Where in the quote I posted did it say “murders”, it said “violent crime”. I realize murder is a violent crime, so are other things. That’s what reading comprehension is for.
