DES MOINES — The Trump administration’s newly-released budget shows aggressive cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, leading an Iowa activist group to cry foul.
The proposed budget will cut $70 billion from Social Security, as well as hundreds of billions of dollars from Medicare and Medicaid.
“It’s unfortunate but predictable that this budget punishes Iowa families so aggressively, given Senator Ernst’s comments about her party’s need to ‘fix’ Social Security ‘behind closed doors’”, said Emily Holley, executive director of Iowa Voices, a group which seeks to protect those programs by influencing elected officials like Ernst and Senator Charles Grassley. “Senator Ernst has said time and again that she would stand up for Iowans’ health care, and she now has the opportunity to do so by publicly rejecting this budget.”
Iowa Voices called on Senators Ernst and Grassley to stand with Iowans and fight against these harmful cuts to essential programs.
Stop giving all of the free things to all the “illegal” immigrants (housing, food, health care, schooling etc)& a good share of the budget would disappear. Why should they get everything free, but seniors, low income, veterans etc pay the cost by reducing what they get to live on? People on medicare paid into it for many, many years & now when they need it to live on the government takes mammoth sums (like Obama did) away & reduces their monthly income or benefits. First the illegal immigrants need to go back from where they came from & enter the country legally & only when they are self supporting.

Another program rife with fraud is social security disability. Simply put, there are people who are claiming disabilities they don’t actually have, or faking conditions in order to receive Federal benefits. Most recently, false PTSD claims have skyrocketed, but have produced large gains in the number of recipients, nonetheless. Total cuts to “non-defense discretionary programs,” which do not include Medicare or Social Security, amount to $2 trillion in savings under the plan..
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) would face a massive 26-percent reduction in funding. The Trump administration has rolled back Obama-era EPA regulations and oversight, saying they have hurt the economy for little benefit..
The proposal also would cut the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s budget by 15 percent, while incorporating $2.8 billion for grants to help combat homelessness. And, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention would see a 9 percent cut, although its $4.3 billion allocation for fighting infectious disease would remain amid the coronavirus spread..

Myth 1: Trump created these deficits. No, no, no. These were the deficits that Trump was facing the day he entered office. The debt, according to the Congressional Budget Office, was expected to be this high and steadily growing every year for the next two to three decades. This was all baked into the cake, and everyone in Washington knew it. But for years, Congress did nothing to prepare for the impending retirement of some 80 million baby boomers.
Myth 2: Trump tax cuts have cost $1.2 trillion. Wrong. Federal revenues since the Trump tax cut passed in 2017 are up roughly $150 billion and were higher in 2019 than any other year in history (adjusted for inflation). These tax cuts and other reforms have added about $5 trillion to $6 trillion to the forecast for economic growth from 2018-2027. Over the decade, the higher revenues from the extra growth and employment have roughly offset the revenue loss from the rate reductions.
Myth 3: Entitlements are the reason the debt is exploding. Yes, income transfer programs such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act are surging, but so are the discretionary programs. Those are up some $200 billion over the last three years. Energy, agriculture, foreign aid and other giveaway programs can and should be cut immediately. The budget started to spiral out of control when Republicans and Democrats got together and foolishly scrapped budget caps and the automatic spending cuts known as sequestration. Trump had little to do with it.
Myth 4: Taxing the rich will solve the problem. Nope. There aren’t enough millionaires and billionaires such as Bernie Sanders, Tom Steyer and Michael Bloomberg to get money to balance the budget. The latest “soak the rich” plans would raise $4 trillion (assuming they don’t change any behavior), but even that would only reduce our deficits over the next decade by about one-third. Wealth taxes across the globe, including the U.S. death tax, have all been colossal failures that have been mostly repealed because they do more damage than benefit to a nation’s economy.
Myth 5: Democrats have a plan to bring down the deficit. Oh, really! Sens. Sanders and Elizabeth Warren would authorize nearly $50 trillion for everything from “Medicare for All” and the Green New Deal to education spending and student loan forgiveness. Congressional Democrats want free health care for illegal immigrants and higher Social Security benefits, making the entitlement crisis worse. In other words, the Democrats’ solution is to load even more people onto the deck of the Titanic. The new Democratic economic creed, Modern Monetary Theory, says that we can keep running deficits and never have to pay them back.
Myth 6: The deficit and debt problems are hopeless. This is the biggest myth of all. No. Here’s how we balance the budget in two steps: First, get to 3% annual economic growth, which will mean more jobs, more taxpayers and fewer welfare payments. Second, impose an enforceable cap on overall spending at the inflation rate of 2% over 15 years. This gets us to zero deficits.

If anything, The Federal government needs to increase Social Security for senior citizens. What they pay now, does not come close to meeting basic needs, and health care.
Also, the Part D prescription drug program is a heavy burden on Seniors (who have a very limited income), requiring them to pay more for basic prescriptions than a lot of commercial plans for non-Seniors. One person on Medicare, pays $192 for her Insulin, while a neighbor with commercial insurance pays only $85.

Social Security was never meant for seniors to live on and Medicare has been a disaster since it’s inception. They both have been Ponzi schemes that have forced anyone NOT receiving Medicare and Social Security higher premiums for our own services.
Then you take into account the Social Security Trust Fund has been robbed of money for other GIVE AWAY free stuff programs by Democrats & some Republicans, the Social Security Program is going broke. Medicare has NEVER been funded properly and you want to expand that too. Too many people are already receiving many benefits for it to be solvent!
