Five anti-LGBTQ bills introduced in Iowa Legislature

State capitol
DES MOINES — Five anti-LGBTQ bills have been released in the last 24 hours, setting a record for Iowa’s state legislature for greatest number of anti-LGBTQ bills introduced in one legislative session. At 13 bills, Iowa is second in the nation for the greatest number of anti-LGBTQ bills this session, following Missouri, which currently ranks number one at 14 bills.

New legislation includes:HF2273, house companion legislation to SF2193, which would undermine civil rights protections for LGBTQ Iowans, HF2274 which creates a study committee to evaluate the inclusion of transgender Iowans in the Iowa Civil Rights Act, and SF2272 which would ban physicians and mental health professionals from providing medically necessary care to transgender youth.

One Iowa Action Executive Director Courtney Reyes condemned the legislation in a statement:

“The relentless assault against the rights of LGBTQ Iowans continues day after day, week after week at the Iowa Legislature. While we are not surprised, we are deeply saddened and upset that legislators continue to focus on stripping protections from marginalized groups rather than ensuring that Iowans have accessible healthcare, world class educational opportunities, and high quality jobs.

Make no mistake, LGBTQ people are not giving up no matter how many pieces of legislation are introduced. We know that Iowans are going to see this legislation for what it is — extreme and divisive. We will stand and fight this discriminatory agenda to the very end, and we will win. ”

One Iowa Action is a 501(c)(4) organization working to preserve and advance the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) Iowans through grassroots efforts, voter education and advocacy.

Where I do NOT to watch their life style in public, I really don’t care what they do to each other in private. I feel the same way about normal sex. Keep it private. And, quit pushing on the rest of us with your gay parades and other crap.

Like some here, I don’t approve of the gay lifestyle. But that is as far as I go.

I will not follow the Social Conservatives however, with their language of hate. Especially one Vander Plaats (America’s most powerful bigot).

We as citizens must observe basic Constitutional rights of all people. Including Due Process, and Equal Protection. That was clearly pointed out by the Iowa Supreme Court in Varnum v. Brien.

Those who follow that lifestyle, should be left to their own course, yet with the same treatment and protections any citizen is allowed.

Oh bullshit. What does one of those bills prevent t that is medically necessary to a trans youth an d not a regular human? If you’re a human being and you go to the doctor the doctor is going to treat you. This is a hate mongering article written to start shit and you know it. Maybe if the f*g*ots wouldn’t go so far out of their way to separate themselves from the rest of the population they could live in peace. What is wrong with you people shit up sit down stop complaining and try to get through life with out making waves of commiting to attention seeking behavior. Grow up already. Nobody cares that you’re gay or want your willy cut off, nobody cares at all. People just want the in your face loud and proud shit to stop. do I burst into your nicely !manicured yards kick open the door to your well decorated home and start screaming about my heterosexual escapades or wants and needs? There’s what? Straight people experience inequality and unfairness too, everyday. It’s called life.

Wow, you sure have a lot of hate in you.
Kind of sad, I feel for ya.

no hate just realism. know a lot of same sex couples that are normal that is don’t flaunt it like the flaming homo do.

Bull shit. I would bet you don’t know 1 same sex couple and if you do, do you call them “fa***ts” to their face?

Some people will do anything to get their 15 minutes of fame. Whether it be he, she, it, they, we, them, us, or whatever the lgbtq choose at the moment they want the most attention.

They bring this on themselves. They keep coming up with more and more bullshit. Sooner or later people will get fed up and it will backfire on them.

Anti lgblt! No way, I like a foot long white with mayo…. what next anti hotdogs and tacos?

My grandpappy said put them all on a island. Check back in 30 years see if they reproduced and are thriving

Like your idea.

What else can we in Iowa do to be #1 in this drama queen drama. I’m sure they-he-she-it can still get mental sex change health care if they pay for it themselves her his.

The next thing they will try to do is make homosexuality a crime punishable by death. We have some crazy people in our legislature and one of them lives in Klemme and his name is Guth.

Just like the Muslim’s

We are not Muslims.

Stop the dramatics. You’re being over the top and if you don’t see that you’re a moron. Like I said up above nobody cares that you’re gay or what parts you prefer. People are just sick of the dramatics and flamboyance. Instead of having a voice and using it all the time to bring attention to yourselves and complain about everyday life maybe just shit up and exist like the rest of us. You don’t see straight people out here complaining and rallying and coming up with pronouns and acting like perpetual victims. Yes some people don’t accept your choices, who cares? You’re not gonna change them and when you put it in their face you anger and embolden them. Gay people create their own strife and striggle by being obnoxious. Everyone lives through things they dislike and find unfair it’s called everyday life. Now fly away little fairy!

Oh no, bumbsted is back!
