College Softball: UNI’s Ryan Jacobs awarded four year contract extension

Jacobs
CEDAR FALLS – UNI Director of Athletes David Harris has announced a four-year contract extension for head softball coach Ryan Jacobs. The new contract extends through May 2024.

“Ryan has done an outstanding job leading our softball program,” Harris said. “Our student-athletes have excelled in the classroom, served the community and won championships in the field of play. Our department is fortunate to have someone with Ryan’s skills, experience and dedication leading our softball program and we look forward to having him at UNI for years to come.”

Jacobs has recorded a 356-284 overall record in 13 seasons as head coach of the Panthers. In that time the Panthers have won an MVC Tournament title and has led his players to multiple honors on and off the field. In the last 13 years, 48 of Jacobs’s student-athletes have earned All-Missouri Valley Conference honors including 5 All-Defensive Team honors and 15 All-Tournament selections. Last season Sammey Bunch claimed the first Player of the Year honor under Jacobs’s tenure. Off the field, Jacobs has led 19 players to MVC Academic Honors, 16 earning First Team Scholar-Athlete honors.

“I want to say thank you to David Harris and Christina Roybal for having the confidence in our staff and supporting our program,” said Jacobs. “I want to say thank you to all of the UNI softball alumni for their hard work and dedication to the program. We are excited about this upcoming season and what’s to come for UNI softball.”

Jacobs and his staff have earned MVC Coaching Staff of the Year honors three times (’09, ’12, ‘17). The Panthers are coming off a 28-23 season in 2019, going 16-10 in the MVC. The Panthers made the 2019 MVC Championship game a season ago.

The team will be back in action at the Doc Halverson UNI-Dome Classic hosted by UNI from Feb 7-9. The Panthers will open the season against South Dakota at 1:30 pm in the UNI-Dome.
