Todd Blodgett Opinion: IMPEACHMENT HANDS TRUMP RE-ELECTION

Todd Blodgett

President Trump’s impeachment likely assures Republicans of approximately 400 Electoral votes in 2020.  While this fiasco briefly assuaged their bottled-up anger, the long-term consequences for the Democrats will only compound their frustration.  Politics is like physics, in that actions cause reactions; it’s not unlike kicking a dog – especially when the angered animal chases, and bites, his attackers.  Congressional Democrats Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff and Jerry Nadler are like aging hippies riding a Moped – and they’re playing chicken against a trucker driving a fully loaded 18-wheeler.  Thinking that Mr. Trump will now lose is as baseless as believing that Hillary, in 2016, could win. These emboldened Republicans will double down on fundraising, micro- targeting of voters, organizational efforts, and social media attacks against ALL Democrats – which will include their 2020 nominee.  Indeed, on the very day that President Trump was impeached, his campaign committee raised nearly $6 million – most of it online. The shenanigans perpetrated by Democrats will drive votes to Trump in every swing state that matters.

The likeability factor also hurts Democrats.  How many registered Independents who will likely vote would even care to meet Liz Warren, Joe Biden, Jerry Nadler, or Adam Schiff?  The answer: not nearly enough to provide the victory margins needed by Trump’s 2020 opponent. Conversely, tens of millions of Americans would enjoy meeting Trump, including many who may find his personal style edgy.

Trump could actually lose the Popular vote by four to five million and STILL garner 400 Electoral votes.  His opponent will almost assuredly take California, Illinois, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey and other states by, collectively, 8-9 million votes.  But the only southern state Trump will likely lose is Virginia. He’s basically locked up Florida, Texas, and Ohio, and is favored in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania – ALL states he carried.  Trump has energized previously moribund citizens like no President since Ronald Reagan; come 2020, he’ll almost certainly win more votes from blacks than any GOP presidential nominee since Richard Nixon.  Astute Democrats realize that Trump won due to working-class votes in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, but these same, clueless Leftists have now alienated such voters. These activists aren’t unlike the inept helmsman who steered the Titanic into the iceberg.

However, the Titanic’s victims suffered for only a few hours; Trump’s foes will be miserable for another four, long years.  The lyrics to a 1960s country tune by the late Buck Owens offer clues to what’s coming: “I’ve got a tiger by the tail; it’s plain to see – I won’t be much when you get through with me … I’m as helpless as a leaf that’s in a gale; Looks like I’ve got a tiger by the tail.”  A YouTube video features an arrogant, mouthy, anti-Trump hooligan snatching a Trump supporter’s MAGA cap at a Pennsylvania rally. Seconds later, numerous Trump fans converged; the thief felt about as welcome as Rosie O’Donnell at an NRA Gun Show. As the crowd yelled, “USA, USA, USA!”, the chastened perp surrendered.  Absent some cops who intervened, the subversive would’ve probably left the rally on a stretcher, might have been taken to a morgue. Similarly, in Iowa City in 2017, a Trump fan confronted some Johnson county Leftists who were disrespectfully burning an American flag. He angrily confronted the fools, confiscated their flag, pushed them back, and dared the crazies to take their best shot.

As one loser tried, the gutsy driver sprayed him with a fire extinguisher.  As the Trump supporter advanced toward another flake, the comrades ALL hastily retreated.  Those Radicals, much like their cocky Congressional counterparts, overplayed their hand and paid dearly.  So, WHY aren’t more Democrats calibrating their game to match their opposition? After all, today’s Republican party is NOT the GOP of the Bush family, John McCain, Gerald Ford, or Mitt Romney.  Donald Trump’s fanatical supporters aren’t gun-shy. These fighters play for keeps, and they’re winning.
