Governor’s Empower Rural Iowa Initiative adopted recommendations for consideration

Kim Reynolds
DES MOINES – This week, the Governor’s Empower Rural Iowa Initiative officially adopted its recommendations to present to Governor Kim Reynolds for the 2020 legislative session. The task forces considered ideas from task force members, industry experts and public input to develop recommendations for the governor’s consideration as she looks to build on the success made in 2019.

“By connecting, investing and growing our rural communities, we can ensure Iowa’s success is every Iowans’ success. We know how to come together to think differently and build an Iowa that shatters expectations,” said Gov. Reynolds. “The efforts made today will allow us to build on the significant achievements made in 2019 to expand, grow, and revitalize rural Iowa.”

“The Governor’s Empower Rural Iowa Initiative is about making sure there is opportunity and prosperity in every corner of our state,” said Lt. Gov. Gregg, co-chair of the Governor’s Empower Rural Iowa Initiative. “Today’s reommendations will keep us moving in the right direction.”

“I appreciate the opportunity to co-chair the Governor’s Empower Rural Iowa Initiative and look forward to working with her administration to build on the success from this past year,” said Sandy Ehrig, co-chair of the Governor’s Empower Rural Iowa Initiative. “I want to thank task force members for putting together these recommendations that seek to better connect, invest, and grow our rural communities.”

Earlier this year, Gov. Reynolds signed HF 772, the Empower Rural Iowa Act that will lay the foundation for vibrant rural communities by providing incentives for broadband and workforce housing. The bill passed the Iowa Legislature unanimously, was a key priority in the Governor’s Condition of the State Address, and was based on previous task force recommendations of the Governor’s Empower Rural Iowa Initiative.

The depression of the 30’s was in part due to the crashing of the stock market. Worldwide starvation followed. Social services helped the desperate. It’s a big chuck of foreign money keeping this free market afloat. And for now the stock market is not the best indicator of the health of our money matters. People have taken to sh!tting on the sidewalks again. They did so during the 30’s too.

I understand that. I also understand that most of what you are saying is a problem and the majority of these problems are the worst in Democrat controlled cities.

Ten incontrovertible things.

First, the top ten homeless cities are sanctuary cities, all led by Democrats.

Second, the top-ten “most dangerous” are led by Democrats.

Third, the top-25 “most dangerous” are mostly Democrat-led, and among the poorest and least employed, with weak infrastructure, tax base and incentives for private investment.

Fourth, among the 25 “most dangerous,” most face stifling poverty of 18 and 39 percent, against the national average of 12. 3 percent. These Democrat-led cities are America’s poorest.

Fifth, most of these cities suffer unemployment rates from 4.4 and 9.3 percent, versus 3.7 nationally.

Sixth, of the 20 “least healthy” cities, all but four are Democrat-led.

Seventh, while these mayors wrestle difficult issues, most oppose policies promoted by President Trump that are bringing prosperity to the rest of the country, such as lower taxes, less regulation, incentives for business investment, stronger law enforcement, cooperation with federal immigration officials, border security, comprehensive anti-drug policies, and local responsibility for declining tax base.

Eighth, most are in anti-gun coalitions, focused on restricting Second Amendment rights, favoring policies at cross-purposes with allowing citizens to protect themselves. While each is different, many favor gun-control, bans on concealed carry and higher minimum wages – all proven misfires.

Ninth, taken as a whole – the mayors are pursuing conflicted policies, on the numbers not breaking cycles of inter generational crime, poverty, unemployment, dependence, employers fleeing tax burdens, untrained employees, accessible private health care, environmental stewardship and personal fitness.

Tenth, These cities can do better. If the policies and leadership are not working, there is an option – especially as America’s economy is thriving and cities are seeing a renaissance in investment, employment, income, health and safety: Elect new leaders.

Iowa is entering a depression.

Maybe your depressed that your a Democrat, But Iowa isn’t entering a depression.
Could be headed, eventually to a recession though. Not to soon. We have more jobs than workers. Now all we need to do is get the corporate tax rates down to a reasonable level.(IA is 12%, CA is 8.84%) Then, maybe we can get more corporate type jobs to help keep some of our younger people here.
If they truly want to grow our rural communities, stop letting Alliant rake us over the coals.
What was the lie we were told about all these wind mills, they would help to reduce our power costs. Still waiting for that one.
