MASON CITY – The Mason City Fire Department accepted a $1000 grant award from Alliant Energy through their Hometown Safety Grant program recently at the Mason City Fire Department.
A grant award presentation was held at the Mason City Fire Department on the afternoon of November 7, 2019.
The funds donated by Alliant will be combined with other donations and general funds to purchase a new thermal imaging camera. Thermal imagers are a vital piece of equipment that aid our firefighters in fighting structure fires and search and rescue efforts.
After the first presentation Alliant, through their Hometown Safety Grant program will award the North Central Regional Emergency Response Commission (NCRERC) $10,000 for a 4 gas monitor program the Commission has undertaken. The NCRERC is the controlling authority for the Region 2 Hazmat Team that is housed at the Mason City Fire Department. The team covers 10 counties in North Central Iowa. The funds provided by Alliant will partially fund the provision of 4 gas monitors to smaller volunteer fire departments within our coverage area. These 4 gas monitors are the first line defense that our volunteer fire departments have when entering a possible hazardous atmosphere. These monitors and the training that we will provide with them will give the firefighters a much higher level of safety as they provide protection to the communities they serve.
The Mason City Fire Department and the North Central Emergency Response Commission thanks Alliant Energy for their generosity.
