Iowa felon faces years in prison for fraudulent voting

BUCHANAN COUNTY, IOWA – A convicted Iowa felon is facing years behind bars after he voted with no right to do so.

William James Gibson, 68, of Hazleton, Iowa, pleaded guilty to two counts of Election Misconduct in the First Degree and one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Third or Subsequent Offense, in the Iowa District Court for Buchanan County on November 5, 2019.

Both counts of Election Misconduct arose from the November 2018 election. One count of Election Misconduct relates to Gibson submitting a voter registration application that he knew to be materially false by asserting that he had never been convicted of a felony. The second count of Election Misconduct arose when Gibson attempted to vote in the election despite knowing he was not qualified to do so because of his felon status. Poll workers identified Gibson as a potential felon and only permitted him to cast a provisional ballot. At the time of the November 2018 election, Gibson was on probation for a felony drug offense as well as having seven (7) prior convictions for state and federal felonies.

The Possession of a Controlled Substance, Third or Subsequent Offense, arose in September 2019 when an officer arrested Gibson following his failure to appear in the Election Misconduct case.

All of the pending charges against Gibson are Class D Felonies but have been Enhanced due his status as a Habitual Felon. Gibson faces imprisonment up to 15 years on each of the three charges as well as an additional 15 years for violating his probation when he is sentenced. A sentencing hearing has not yet been scheduled.

A felon trying to vote? My god! He should fry for this! Every human should have a right to vote, and be required to! politicians commit felonies all the time $=

…I know the law is the law, but can’t we find some way to arrest non-voters as well???

man i feel safer knowing our justice system has the balls to look a hardened non threatening drug using non violent geriatric behind bars. meanwhile heroin dealers with stolen guns get suspended sentences. i thought we already knew dead folks vote democrat. im more worried about the lefts ability to reanimate the corpse like they did with this one lol.

Prison is his retirement plan.

Democrat?

60 years in prison, that’ll teach him. Times are a changing. It’s OK to charge a legal citizen with voter fraud, but look the other way when illegals do it. Having an ID or drivers license doesn’t make you a citizen.
