On Tuesday, October 29 at approximately 7:40 PM, the Webster County Telecommunications Center received multiple calls regarding possible shots fired in the area of the 1300 block of South 23rd Street in Fort Dodge. A call also came in indicating that a female had been shot. No information was given as to potential suspects involved at that time.
When officers arrived on scene, they located a 19-year-old female identified as Tailen Sturtz, who had been shot in the back. Officers provided medical care until paramedics were able to arrive. She was transported from the scene to Unity Point — Trinity Regional Medical Center before being taken to Des Moines via Life Flight in stable condition.
Officers and investigators have been investigating this incident throughout the evening hours. At this stage, little information is being provided as to what occurred. Multiple witnesses have been spoken to as well as evidence collected. Fort Dodge police say they feel as though there are those that have direct knowledge of this incident, and they strongly encourage them to come forward with that information.
“We have reason to believe this incident involved individuals known to each other and have no evidence to support this was a random act,” police said.
The Fort Dodge Police Department was assisted on scene by the Webster County Sheriff’s Office and the Fort Dodge Fire Department.

you don’t have to put the name of the town anymore, we will know that its either Fort Dodge or Rochester. Rochester used to be such a nice town, we used to go up there a weekend a month and stay overnight at the midway motor lodge and they had a nice large bar with musical entertainment every weekend. would step foot in that town now at least without a bullet proof vest or a m16 along.
We used to stay at that hotel too. It was a great place to stay the weekend in Rochester. We won’t hardly go there at all anymore. And, we refuse to go to Minneapolis at all.
