IOWA CITY – Former Mason City star Makenzie Meyer enters her senior year for Iowa, and the Hawkeyes will need her long-distance shooting to be on the mark for continued success.
Iowa won the Big Ten Conference tournament last year behind Megan Gustafson‘s heroics along with a strong cast of players that included Makenzie Meyer. Iowa made it to the Elite 8 before suffering a serious pummeling at the hands of Baylor. This season, Meyer enters her senior year with higher expectations.
“Makenzie Meyer, again, another four-year starter for us, somebody that has had so much experience, one of our best three-point shooters, and we’re really going to be counting on that,” said head Coach Lisa Bluder, this week. “Obviously our style is going to change a little bit this year and our point of emphasis is going to change, and so Makenzie’s three-ball is going to be as important as it ever has been for us.”
Meyer shot 35.6% from three land last season and averages 8.8 points per game for her career at Iowa.
This season, she will be a teammate with her freshman guard sister, Megan Meyer, who also enters the Iowa program via Mason City.
